About this Book:
  • Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is twelve, the Nazis occupy Paris, and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure's reclusive great uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum's most valuable and dangerous jewel.

I mean, yes, it's pretty terrible. And beautiful and sad and everything else.

The book is so much better (and more believable) than what Netflix did to it, IMHO.

What's regrettable is that many people have strong ego and limited view that they limit their action only if it was a matter concerning them and their family or their associates directly. Compassion with a limited range is what makes this world dangerous, making us compassion only to the people we relate to and generally not towards strangers or people we consider alien to our understanding. Yet, it's also the first step into that development. That is the illusion of love, that it's towards sentients we affiliate with. When we learn to love all, those we know and know not, even enemies that is when we learn true love. That also begins with honesty to ourselves and the removal of double ignorance Socrates referred as to his wisdom; Whereas he knew of his shortcomings others only thought they knew. The worst kind of ignorance is misknowing, when one knows of knowledge wrongfully but consider it correct as compared to unknowing where one does not know or understand. The latter case there is a chance to fill the void with the right knowledge but in the former new information would have to compete with potentially conflicting truths that may obstruct it's acceptance.
