Having this my biggest regret is the power block its dependent on. Its massive and cumbersome. Its a desktop replacement.

It's no different if it was using Intel CPU with their integrated graphics.

A lot of things the processor can run more efficiently without using the GPU for longer battery life.

To me, this combo doesn't make sense. I mean, why put an APU with a GPU. Imo would be better to use a low wattage CPU without the APU, and then pair with the gpu to reduce redundancy. I suppose the upside here is you can disable the 4060 when you want to go low power for streaming or browsing.

Their XPS line with the RTX4050 is great because you can use any USB-C PD adapter, although their USB-C adapter provided is not too bulky for that model as it is.

I haven't posted here in close to a decade. So, please be gentle w/ any mistakes.

Dell has the G15 in white or purple shell for $765. Base price is $849.99 (well instant $250 off of 1,099.99). The black shell is $50 more. Get an extra 10% off with coupon "save10", which takes price from $850 to $765.

Are the 2x8GB DDR5 soldered? I like to remove the 2x8GB memory and replace them with 2x16 GB DDR5.

They are SODIMMs, not soldered. A tell-tale way to determine soldered RAM is when it's specified as LPDDR5.

I don't think they even make laptop CPUs that don't have some sort of integrated GPU.

That 'upside' you're talking about is what happens automatically 90% of the time, the user doesn't need to do anything.

thanks. seems like laptop version is not too bad although highly dependent on the laptop itself. on an avg maybe 10-20% slower overall on laptop.

I'm referring to the fact that the 7840HS is a very capable IGPU, and pairing it with a low end gpu is just a waste. AND FYI, not all laptops can swap back and forth like that, i've had to manually disable a fairly recent 2060 laptop from HP. And they absolutely make high end laptops without igpus. I just seen a threadripper for 10k+

How bad is the cooling? Last Dell I bought was an Inspiron a few years back and it was junk with a dinky little heat pipe insufficient for the specs. On paper these specs are very good but I've been fooled by Dell before.
