I think the rub is with DV, even though the average consumer probably won't notice the difference is two fold. 1. It's like a $5 license or less for DV, but Samsung helped develop the hdr10 plus spec so they dig their heals in, and 2. For those who have access to "friends" media libraries, you just want to hit play and have it work. Not get purple colors because it's DV or your client can't select the HDR stream in a hybrid release properly.
And then maybe a minor 3rd point, the classic fomo. Even though you probably wouldn't notice it, you'll know you don't have it, and when buying a brand new TV that can be ocd triggering.

On top of the $5 per TV license you also have to factor in the engineering hour to add the DV chip to the electronic board of the TV and additional engineering hours to calibrate the chips output and additional hours to do QA testing on thatt. Dolby just gives you the chip and the license and nothing else.
That is why DV on LG looks different to DV on TLC, Hisense, and Sony.
So, at least for me is a nice to have, not a must have speciallly when the price difference is significantly more and also when DV becomes less of factor when the TV are already very bright making DV less necessary.
I the end the consumer votes with their money. Let them vote and if DV is really what everyone says it will be around for a long time.
Dolby Vision is overrated in my opinion. Doesn't make those who care for Dolby Vision their opinion invalid. I just watched Dolby Vision side by side to HDR10 (not plus) and I rather have QLED colors and brightness than a Koolaid Vision.
Video processing wise, I will accept that Samsung's sucks big time and LGs is much better though. Only matters though if you are watching low quality lo res content. Motion processing is also better with LG. However, like in almost everything you have to decide and make decision knowing that there is always trade-offs.
Just go to a TV store or a show room and decide for yourself if LG Koolaid Vision matters or not.
Again, is your money, let your eyes decide.
Based on my own liking, 2023's models where something like this: Sony A95L > LG G3 > Sammy S95C/S90C > LG C3. But that is just my liking. There are people that like way more the LG C3.
I am inclined to agree with you to a certain extent
I personally own the Sony A95L...and I spent a lot of time comparing TV's and obsessing somewhat with every little detail, since this was my media room TV
However..could I have lived with the LG G3 ..or the Samsung S90, for this price, and had no reservations for what I paid. The answer is absolutely
I was told they don't sell the display unit. Where are you located? Any idea how many hours the TV is on the TV?
Cape coral FL. This one there last one sitting there with a fs for display model. I honestly got lucky as I went to see if they had the original deal posted here. It was actually for 1380, I just said can I get it cheaper, and they took down the price lol. the electronics guy said he put it up 3 months ago. I don't watch TV... almost at all, so I'm not worried. plus it has 5 year warranty.

Nice. If you go into the menu you might be able to check how many hours the TV was used. At least on the LG I have that is possible, not sure about Samsung. The Sam's I went to had the sale sign but the TVs behind it were a different model, not OLED. They didn't have any in stock and checked other stores in the area and none in stock around me.
Wish I have a Cybertruck to be able to pick it from Sam's and take it home.
Don't make me barf, CT is one of the ugliest car("truck") i've ever seen. I feel sorry for the people who actually buy them. They look like total bafoons on the road.

I guess picking up on sarcasm isn't your strong suit?

To my eyes..I think the rtings article is spot on
The panel itself you choose is FAR more a factor than Dolby Vision is
