Called a few places locally but all were full-price or higher than the internet listed price.

They clearanced these off awhile ago. About the only way you would see one instore is if it was misplaced or someone returned under the 1 year return policy. The only store I could get this to show up at was Alton, IL it showed limited stock (likely none actually instock just has not been removed from inventory list) and was not even marked as clearance.

Yep... I agree. It's pretty annoying

You didn't even need to have an account before either and at some point the inventory availability actually worked for free at Walmart.
