Heads up, those considering buying two units for karaoke - the unit allows music to be pumped through in sync to two speakers, but the mic audio will only come out of the speaker that it's paired to, not both. Confirmed this is a limitation with JBL support.

This was a deal breaker for me since my primary use case was karaoke. Just an FYI!

I bought the essential version of this for $89 from the military exchange a while back.
Same machine but essential version does not include microphone.
Fantastic speaker for $89
I don't think I would have been happy paying this price.

No it does not. It has an Aux in, but no mic in. The only way to use it for Karaoke is to use the included mics.

Same situation but already had this one thinking the essential was the same without Mics.... it's much more inferior. Sound is the same... light affects are not... less lighting... so they don't match. Also found the essential vs this one has a way smaller battery. At $169 this is a no brainer.

I bought a Sam's Club membership just for this deal (got the $20 Groupon deal). I already have Costco this year, so didn't need Sam's club membership. But then I was buying two speakers. Moved into a new house and they will do well as a stereo pair in the living room. Figured buying a membership just for this means $10 extra per speaker which ain't bad. Shipping was $6.50 for the pair. Total $373 for the pair after tax and shipping.

Even if I were to consider the $20 as part of the cost that's $393. Under $200 for each is still pretty good.

I suppose you could talk/sing into two mics paired to two separate speakers to get "stereo"? Not an ideal setup though. If you're looking for a single source/mic to multiple speakers, better to look at another setup.

But yes, all four mics can be used at the same time but the sound will only come out of the speaker that it's paired to.

I got the encore essentials from ebay 2 weeks ago. What's the main differences? That one has a mic input XLR, but tested and it's not working on my wired microphone. I contacted JBL to see what's up
