Not really. This works wonders and very easy to use. Shoveling doesn't really loosen the soil unless you stab the ground multiple times.

Got one. Thanks

Tool only is $68 at Lowe's so you get the battery and charger included from woot. Battery only last about 20 min but you can get more batteries cheap on Amazon or if you have from other black and decker tools

This is good for grandma. I'd can do better with a couple shovel flips and no charging required 😉

If you are breaking new ground I wouldn't use this - Tines are probably going to break or fold if you hit a rock. 've had an older version of the below that I picked up on CL for sub $100 and it has been a real workhorse across 4 vegetable gardens...would recommend skipping a 20V tiller and spend a bit more for an electric or gas one:

One of those deals I jump on because the day will come when it will get some good use. In the meantime I'll throw the battery into the rotation.

This doesn't work well. I had an very similar earlier version. The "claws" are too small and would get clogged up with clay or vegetation and the orientation of the "claw" is also problematic. You want something that goes in a vertical direction and not in a horizontal direction.

I attempted to use it couple of time then donated to local Goodwill and got me a twist motion manual tiller instead.

If you have weeds or grass of any type, this thing will come to a hault. Ours has maybe an hour of use right when we got it, and it's been hanging up ever sense. Been over 2 years at this point.

Has to be relatively loose soil for this to do anything in my experience. Forget it if there are weeds or mulch or rocks or roots in there. Also not going to help save much time in a large space. May as well get a cheap corded tiller IMO.

I have an earlier version and it is great for loosening up the soil and mixing new combinations of soil in 5-20 gallon grow bags. Fits just right and mixes in the nutrients for the plants each year.
