I own the R7 because the extra $200+ for the R8 features wasn't worth it to me. I just use my R7 as a stand alone device and didn't want to mess with having my iPhone also plugged in and in use.
IMO, the R7 is the best overall value with a detector with arrows and performance.. I've owned older detectors without arrows and i'll never go back. Takes a lot of the guess work out of the equation when there are alerts.
