It really depends on the material you're working with. If your bread and butter is pine and plys, you don't need the extra torque, but if you're frequently working with some really dense wood, it would behoove you to get the worm drive.

When in doubt, follow Adam Savages Advice: get the cheaper tool. If you find yourself needing the better tool, the cheaper tool would still have served its purpose and gotten you to where you are now.

Used it straight away on a deck project and was very impressed.

I also have the 60V 'worm drive' left bladed saw. Also a beast, but heavy.

Left bladed is great for sheet goods and visibility, but I still reach for this saw the most.

Also handy to have both sided saws onsite to overcome obstructions when cutting stuff that is fixed in place.

This is an absolute beast of a saw. I got it last time around on woot (6 weeks ago) for the same price.
Used it straight away on a deck project and was very impressed.

I also have the 60V 'worm drive' left bladed saw. Also a beast, but heavy.

Left bladed is great for sheet goods and visibility, but I still reach for this saw the most.

I might have to buy this. Being left handed and left eyed, this saw has the best view-point for us lefties. My Hitachi 18v saw doesn't have the sustained torque to get through a sheet of plywood.

What if you buy the cheaper tool and your first project is with dense wood so it doesn't work?

That saw has done everything I've needed, just maybe isn't the most powerful and might be a little slower. I think if I was doing work for a trade it would be worth having the best, but I'm thinking It's not a worthwhile upgrade for me. Thoughts?

The 60V is in an entirely different category. It's been tested at roughly 2500W out at the motor, real world. This saw can do stuff that would make the 20V melt. Running a thick full kerf blade for dead straight and clean rips. Running a 60T finishing blade through hardwood. Compound miters on ply or hardwood. You name it.

This is a great all-purpose saw.

At the bottom of the scale is a baby jig saw, upgrade to the 20V circular saw (smaller blade, lighter saw), this one and finally a AC powered worm drive that is a beast when roofing/framing.

Of course we have our table saw options.

For most tasks, e.g. 3/4" plywood this one just eats through material. Doesn't bog down unless I'm not supporting one end (but if you go fast enough, it'll just blast through). Was cutting through 2-3 sheets last weekend to create base stands for window AC units. Then trimming up when I needed to adjust the 2x4's

Unless I'm cutting thicker material, painting it, AND heading out to do a job - this is a great "do all" saw that you can throw in the back of the truck. The battery lasts plenty long, it has a very nice balance, and tracks well.

AC worm drive? Plywood / OSB when doing full sheets for a roof.

Point is you can get by with a jig saw. You go slow and it works. But when you start making longer and longer cuts, it's no longer feasible to be standing at a table making a 4' cut.
