This is a two pack of mx4200. It's the same hw as the ln1301. This has fw that enables the velop mesh functionality. The last firmware update was in 2022 though.
You can get up to date fw by using Openwrt. Openwrr also gives you a lot more customizability and options.
To bypass the app forcing screen in the stick fw, click on the picture of the phone. Then click on ca on the lower right.
There was a now expired three pack for $100 on woot a last week. That deal got a lot of attention.

I have an older velop mesh system (and pretty old laptops other than the work at home computers) any reason why I'd want to upgrade?

How does this compare with the mx4300 (ln1301) deal a few days ago? That deal was for single piece, non velop, no 160mhz channel for $25 each.
also compared the internals. mx8000 has 9 antennas vs 4 antennas in the 1301.

I read another comment about the ln1301 that said installing openwrt would disable mesh mode but I never looked into it further. Any idea if that's true or not?

Thanks for your reply. Could you please check the following links, specifically the "Specifications" section:
MX8000:
https://downloads.linksys.com/sup...RevB00.pdf

MX4300:
Unable to find the link, but I remember seeing 4 antennas, and 2x2 as opposed to 4x4.

Anyway, from what I read online (that I'm unable to substantiate for MX4300), they have different configurations/hardware.

I have T mobile 5g internet at my house. . The speed is sometimes slow, but sometimes decent (35-400mb/s) But I often have a horrible lag from my desktop computer wifi to the router. often takes 1-3 seconds to start loading a page.
Would this system help that lag? Or is it just the slow ping times of the T-mobile internet? (ocaisionally on speedtest my ping times are 150-350ms)

It's actually a two pack of the mx4000 so it's slightly slower than mx4200v1. But everything else you said is right.

Can this be added onto an existing mesh network of MX4000?

Is Openwrt really supported on these mx4000 units? Can you please point to instructions for reflashing this model?

Also, there seems to be mx4000 v1 and v2 hardware. Which one is woot shipping?

I got the wyze mesh 2 pack new at home depot. How does this compare?

I have read a lot of negative reviews of the wyze but so far, two months and not one hiccup.

I would not buy these for the price alone. $30 per router? Does anyone think they will get stability and speed for that price? Not going to happen. I recommend spend between $250 to $300 for a set of 3 mesh router system from TP-Link.
I have the previous gen velop that I bought for a similar price. It's been rock solid for about a year and a half now, with about 50 devices. Significantly better than a $500 system I bought from Costco and ended up returning. I do have concerns about their older firmware and potential security vulnerabilities so I'm going to start looking into openwrt.

Would this be a good replacement for the verizon fios g3100 router? I'm considering using this to replace the rental equipment.

This is great. I bought this 2 months go from Woot for $80.

https://slickdeals.net/f/17504667-80-2-pack-factory-reconditioned-linksys-mx8000-mesh-wifi-router-at-woot?src=SiteSearchV2Algo

I have an all WiFi setup (no wired backhaul) and get decent speeds on WiFi 6. Stable too with no major connectivity issue.

IMO, even if they're nearly the same feature wise, it gets you out from underneath rented hardware. Then you don't have to worry about getting equipment if you change providers.
