I think the only thing "limited" about this limited edition is that you can only buy them direct from fender. Not that they're making a limited number of them.

Of the three you mentioned probably the Limited Edition Squier Sonic® Stratocaster® HT. At least that has 3 pickups for more options.
I would probably recommend checking used stuff maybe on Craigslist though for something they really like and want to play.
But I am holding out for another great deal on that Fender American II Dark Night that looks like is only done for SlickDeals users. Looks like that happens once or maybe twice a year. ($1800 down to $1100)
