Seems like an ideal unit to pair with an older receiver or one of those cheap chip amps. Best of both worlds - audio quality (via wired DAC) or convenience (Bluetooth).

If you are getting this for Bluetooth, this version 5.0 is dated. You can get a better Bluetooth version 5.2 or 5.3 BO6SPlus for $35. It has the purple ring.
Keep in mind this does not come with a remote control so if you hardwire your phone with a USB you're constantly walking up to the unit if you want to change songs or playlists.

Bluetooth 5.2 vs 5.0 implements some low energy protocol but it's probably not what you're looking for in a powered DAC unit. BT 5.0 and 5.2 have the same max data bandwidth, so there's no difference there in the more data demanding protocols they can support.
Ds601 also has some additional connectivity for audio in/out.
All in all, for a similar price I think the ds601 might have a bit of an edge. In real world applications the edge might not matter that much.
