No, it's not for the one percent ethier. You can get into simulators alot cheaper than other hobbies I see the majority of people get into. You can get crazy and be lazy and spend upwards of 10-20k plus on setup but also have a blast and keep it under 2k. If you live in a part of the world where bad weather is par from the course golf simulators are an awesome toy to have in the house or in your backyard

You can still get a permanent license for GSPro for it, but like the officially supported 3rd party software for Skytrak LMs (e6, TGC 2019, etc), you need to carry any Skytrak membership to use it with 3rd party software. Luckily Skytrak isn't officially supported by GSPro still and someone found a workaround, so we don't have to carry a subscription to Skytrak to use 3rd party software like this. That's another slickdeal in itself if you go the skytrak route.
Here's a reddit thread with more clarify because I'm definitely not an expert when it comes to the BLP.

edit: damn, it looks like you're stuck with a $500/year sub just to use 3rd party software unless you've got an unlocked one.
Huge downside is the $600 a year subscription for GSPro FSX etc.
Without subscriptions, it will still provide ball and club data (including spin and angle of attack) on the LCD display at the range or into a net.
If you sell the unit, the new buyer will need to pay an extra $100 license transfer fee.
Battery lasts about 6hrs per charge. Since it's optical, it doesn't need 6-8ft of space behind you nor 8-10ft of space in front.
