I've never understood why people shop at Dick's. I get that places like REI stay in business with high prices by having super knowledgeable staff and only stocking products that they know are top quality, but Dick's has high prices without the knowledgeable staff or quality prices.

In a prior career I would often travel to the city that Dicks is headquartered in. Their flagship store design is beautiful. Prices, however, were not so beautiful. Every time I would ask a co-worker or local where to get XYZ in relation to sports equipment, the answer was "Go to Dunhams and REI, but avoid Dicks [Sporting Goods]"

Public Lands is a rebranding of the now-failed Field & Stream retail chain.

On one occasions I bought a kayak there. On sale, with a coupon.
It was going for about $500 just everywhere else. I paid $200. While I was waiting for them to get it from the back, nothing else I oogled seemed like a good price and I haven't been back since.

Our Dick's bought out the Galyan's store, an excellent REI-like regional chain. And then Field and Stream shut down and reopened as…Dick's outlet: The outlet store with normal prices!

Needless to say, my town is covered in Dick's now.
