16GB is max what they sell with. It supports 64GB max.
It is DDR5. For Mobile Processors, starting from Ryzen 6000 series (Zen 3+), they don't support DDR4 memory anymore. Only DDR5 is supported.

This is the best deal out for a laptop price at $600 that can handle gaming. I would slap a 16 Ram stick in their and she would fly. The Warranty is only $80 for 3 years. Bargain!

The next model up with 16Gb of RAM lists for $800ish. Go grab a stick of 8GB Crucial 5600 laptop RAM for $40 and save some money.

Seems pretty solid for an entry level gaming/CAD laptop at $600. The 8gb ram is less than ideal, but it has a slot to upgrade and ram is really cheap now. I like the i/o ports, powered usb-c and an sd card slot. Might be a bit bulky for business users and battery life could be a problem with the graphics card, but it also uses a 4nm Ryzen chip and could be tamed down to provide a decent work day. Might be a decent all rounder if you are willing to take on a couple of extra pounds in heft.

I'm not sure if this is the exact model that I purchased but I ended up returning it because the fans literally whistled.

Yeah for the price and gaming at 1080 (good for most) it's perfectly fine.

Thanks for that but.. not trying to start an argument with you by any means I'm just really confused now Smilie

The walmart listing mentions it's a "AMD Ryzen 5-8645HS"

I did a google search for "HP Victus AMD Ryzen 5-8645HS" and that led me to HP's website here

https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp...-8z0s4av-1

Then when you scroll down it says "Up to 16 GB DDR5-5600 MHZ RAM ....Designed to run more efficiently and reliably at faster speeds to boost performance for improved multitasking."

Is the HP website trying to just be sneaky? Because I wouldn't put it past HP Smilie .. or to put it another way the HP website is saying " Hey you can buy an overpriced stick of RAM from us that we'll put in the laptop to bring it up to 16 GB total " but HP doesn't want you to know you could buy snd put in say your own 32 GB stick of ram in there and it would work just fine too (assuming the 8 gb stick it comes with is soldered which may not be the case see other question below Smilie ) .. I'm confused only because I've heard some laptop manufacturers will straight up make that a limitation, "nope this laptop only supports 16 GB of ram and won't recognize any ram past that screw you" Stick Out Tongue

Also anyone know if the 8 gb ram stick that it comes with soldered in there or if you could take it out and slap say two 16 GB sticks of ram in there (assuming it would benefit from dual channel memory or whatever the heck it's called Stick Out Tongue can't remember right now for the life of me)

I'm not saying you should necessarily buy from memory stock mind you but there's this website with what I think is a similar model that talks about 64 GB max ram

Think this can run Baldur's Gate 3 with no problems?

As I mentioned in my earlier post, HP or most other companies, when mention the UP TO Ram Size or UP TO Storage size, they normally mention the highest configuration of that model they sell, not the absolute maximum size.
