It's not a new property. Over 5K reviews on google, so it's clear this property was renovated and they're passing it off as a "grand opening"
https://maps.app.urlhasbeenblocke...ohXWpUTBYA

A review from 3 years ago spells it out... they renovated the property, and did it while guests were staying.

It's pretty important to note that the hotel is having renovations done currently. The lobby is gorgeous but the rooms are very outdated. The employees at the hotel are great and do the best they can, but the hotel really shouldn't be operating right now. You can hear construction noise all through out the hotel and the pool and hot tub area is having renovations done right next to it that make it unsafe and unpleasant. Definitely not relaxing. Like everyone we work hard so we can go on vacation, so this was disappointing. We wasted our money, we could have easily booked somewhere else had we known there were renovations being done. Feeling very cheated.

It seems from the recent reviews the renovation did work, people generally like it now.
Wow, definitely feeling old now…I remember staying here when it first opened in the 90s as the Marriot CasaMagna.

Never stayed in Cancun proper. We've always gone to Playa Del Carmen or even Cozumel. Less people and better food (IMHO). Also, for me, staying in Cancun is like staying in Times Square. Some people like that but I wouldn't.

I was just there last month and I have to tell you half the beach line in Cancun is gone. I haven't been there in a while and was shocked at the beach line is gone and is taken over by seaweed.

I stay at a fairly nice resort also and they were trying to clean it up everyday to no avail.

I would advise to go to playa de carmen if you want to use the beach everyday.

I just redeemed 5 free nights from chase boundless card going there in November, however they charged extra person fee for kids $100 bucks a night, works out to be additional $1000 for two kids
still debating if it's worth it or not
Is this your first time at an all inclusive? That's a standard fee

Yes, first time, kind of a sticker shock when seeing $1000 extra person fee for 5 days for 2 kids

I can see it being moreso for children. Especially as they eat very little and don't drink alcohol. It makes a lot more sense when you're bringing another adult who is going to be eating non stop and drinking liquor on the hotel's dime all day long.

The 20% code does not work for points redemption correct?
