I just replaced my Hampton Bay fan of many years, was in perfect working condition. Just wanted something with remote, phone app and wifi. Of the three I installed one went seamlessly with no hiccups. The other two had issues connecting to and keeping the wifi connection but after resetting my router they all worked fine. Honestly, most things I want today I don't care for them lasting 20yrs as techological conveniences are changing before my very eyes, and so I'm ok with cheap modern day fans etc. They blow just fine.

Just got replacement value insurance - time to see how well it works.

Been there. It was one of those plastic childproof window fans. Presumably, the motor seized and overheated. The fire went up the cord and into the wall. We lost one of our cats and the insurance company dumped us after paying out ~$60k in damages. We never ran one of those trash fans again.

Sadly Hunter Quality has gone way down since then, but still better than "no name" brand.

HD Fan's (Hampton Bay, Home Decorators) are decent, mostly made in Taiwan... (at least the models I've used).

For anyone unaware, if you have a perfectly functional fan but just want to add smart features you can just buy a new controller and install it up inside the fan. It is slightly easier and much less expensive than replacing the whole fan.
