Just a warning to everyone, lynksys does not want to honor the warranty advertised on woot.com. I'm currently waiting for an email or call back from both an online chat and a phone call. All I need is a new power supply and im having trouble.

if we're still talking about the LN1301, then no, it's running a vendor SDK, an old and butchered up version of openwrt

with stock firmware ?
no idea, I'm not even going to plug it in, until openwrt support is finished.

It took like a week for Walmart to ship mine. Only showed label created. But finally I got it.
Same here.

The subcontractor (to Amazon/Woot) here is doing some questionable tactics. Credit card has been charged and the order status on the Amazon website has been set to "shipped" several days ago.

Everybody else's definition of shipped means left the warehouse and in the possession of the carrier.

Creating a tracking number (and not leaving the leaving the warehouse promptly) is a sleazy tactic to satisfy the credit card company's rules against charging a customer's card too early for an order.

Just wanted to give an update on this. By itself, this thing blows away my previous router + the AX Ethernet AP I was using. Everything in my house connected to this single node but I will admit, the far ends were weak. I ordered the 2 pack mx4200 nodes. I was able to connect this to the Linksys app and add the child nodes with ease. So this will definitely work with mesh as a parent node. I do not have a second one of these to see if they would add as a child node unfortunately. If someone wants to send me one, I'd test it ASAP. This is an absolute steal at this price.

Linksys says the ln1301 does not work with their app. You were able to get the app to work with it?

There are options to avoid the poor stock fw. Third party fw options like Openwrt are maturing nicely for it.
It works for me in the app. I was even able to add a mx4200 as a child node mesh.

Are the MX4200 the same as this one?

No. This one is considered Mx4300/LN1301. I bought the mx8000 kit which has two mx4200 which support mesh. https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/980640

It is 3-4 year-old hardware with wifi6 in a market that's shifting to wifi7. No 6ghz support, and also stripped of its most valuable feature for consumers, simplified mesh networking.
6ghz is pretty much useless right now. Not many devices support it, and the range is horrible. Speed is good on paper, but not practical. Can't even use it for backhaul if the mesh devices are far apart.

Based on the openwrt code and the tear down pictures, the only hw differences between mx4200 and mx4300 are the mx4300 has more RAM and flash.

Yeah well put. I hardly see anything with 6ghz. Honestly it seems like a gimmick. 2.4/5g AX is where it's at. Ethernet speed without the wire. I could definitely see AX lasting a long time before the next best thing. Look at how long N lasted. I got my first N300 card in 2012. I still have it.

Things change pretty quick. I've never gone out of my way to buy 6ghz devices, but already my firestick, my computer, my phone, and my TV all support it. That's kind of how things happen with wifi for me.

The killer feature of 6ghz to me is all the extra spectrum that it has. You mentioned backhaul. I don't know if you know this, I assume not based on your comment, but people go out of their way to buy mesh systems with 6ghz backhaul. The lack of congestion combined with being able to add nodes with mesh and alleviate the problem of range has made those systems into desirable products for a lot of people.

All that said, I think your overall sentiment isn't wrong. Most people don't need it. I'm not running out to replace my stuff yet. These Linksys routers are a great value. I ordered three of them before I wrote my comment. I wasn't trashing them. I was only pointing out factors for why these aren't going to fly off the shelves if Linksys wanted to try to market and sell them as high end routers today rather than what they've done in essentially writing them off. They didn't decide to stop selling routers. They've moved on to new products.
