Yeah the problem was allegedly solved in drives manufactured after approximately September of 2023 with firmware version 3.2.F.66. I am not positive of the exact manufacture date, it is what I read and it did coincide with the manufacture date of the affected PC's within our company.

These drives are actually manufactured by a company called Biwin, They make the exact same drive for HP, Acer, Adata, Teamgroup and others using the InnoGrit IG5236 controller.

In my specific experience until a month ago I worked in the IT dept for a Fortune 500 company who deployed almost 100 HP computers that had the HP FX900 Pro drive which is the same drive as this one and we had a few that failed where the data simply disappeared. Turns out the ones that failed all had the older version of the firmware, it was simply the luck of the draw as to when they were manufactured.

Sadly, Biwin unlike some other manufacturers does not offer a tool to flash the firmware to a newer version, they chose to replace the defective drives through their RMA process.

All this took place at the beginning of 2024 and I'm not aware of any issues after that, the unaffected drives worked well, however while this is a decent deal, I would certainly immediately check the firmware version as soon as I got it. While these drives are very fast, you could be sitting on a ticking time bomb if you get one with old firmware on it.
This is TLC and the one in your link is QLC. So this one should be better.

This seems like a good deal for TLC + real cache.

So, it comes with installed heatsink, but modern MBs have M.2 cover/heatsink builti nto the MB.

We just ripoff the builtin heatsink?

Controller: InnoGrit IG5236.
Was or is plagued with sudden death, etc. Make sure you have good backups.
I recommend avoiding Innogrit.

If this came out 3 years ago, any chance they changed the design and use different components now?

At work we got one of these months ago, SSD prices were a little lower then. I do content creation and copy several massive video files back and forth to our company server several times a day. Almost 200 TBW so far, no problems yet, crystal disk mark shows 7.3/6.7 read/write speeds.

I like the fact this has a DRAM cache, many don't. Only thing is it didn't come with a heat sink, luckily the Asrock motherboard has a NVMe cover with a built-in heat spreader. I could use more space at home, gonna grab one. Nice deal, thanks op.
