I've used a little bit of vegetable oil in the past for this. 3-in-1 sounds good too.

For sharpening, I fold up aluminum foil a little thicker than a sheet of paper, not as thick as cardstock and run that through. Does a good job.

No need to spend this much on a whole lot of sheets that you'll have to find a place to store and forget about.
I make my own lubricant sheet. I pour some 3-in-1 oil across a sheet of paper in an S-pattern and shred the paper. Here's a YouTube video [youtu.be] explaining the process.
This is one of those things that seem like a good idea but would be hard to know if it's an absolute waste of money.

Is this better than just oiling the feed directly? I just run in reverse for 30 seconds to ensure proper coating.

I saw someone on youtube using canola oil on paper. From reading this thread it sounds as if any oil would work. I would like know which oil is best for the shredder though. I picked up the Sam's Club $60 shredder and for the money it can't be beat.

For cheap most veggies oil works fine in small amount. If you want better try the stuff that use for treadmills. Silicone lube also a good option.

Excellent price for 24 sheets. I bought these a few months ago for a few dollars more. I like these sheets because they are simple to use and you don't need to worry about using too much oil or making a greasy mess.
no reason to worry about using too much oil or making a mess - just don't do either.
