Can't find specs on woofer size. Curious on performance compared to Mackie Thump 15 I got open box on prime day.

Looks like this version has not battery built in, so will have to be plugged all the time. 🤔

The Thump 15 is a professional PA speaker with XLR and 1/4 inputs. It doesn't have flashy lights or omnidirectional sound, but if you want to replicate sound in a loud way, the Thump is better. Plus, overall volume on 5.5" woofers vs 15" woofer is night and day.

Pretty awesome speaker, NO distortion at max volume and bass is clean and thumping. I use this for family gatherings at the house and added 2 wireless microphones for Karaoke night.
Warnings:
  • Super Heavy, I'm fairly strong and at 6'2 it is a pain to take to families homes but I go through the struggle because nobody has a better speaker in my family.
  • Samsung requires to use the mobile app to connect via bluetooth which I thought was odd, I have every samsung app so it wasn't that big a deal but could be annoying for some folks. (Also the app is the worst user interface i've ever seen)
  • The speaker layout blasting in 2 directions is only a plus if you have a large space to fill with sound, which I do, for someone wanting direct audio in your face for like a movie this speaker won't be the best for that.
  • I recommend to use your phone equalizer to add more bass and make the sound tuned to your liking, the EQ presets kind of stink

Echo everything you mentioned, also confirm no battery (i.e., need to plug in power source). App is atrociously useless. Good for pool parties and karaoke nights. Otherwise will be collecting dust because of its heavy size

Love this speaker. Only downsize for me is the weight of this thing. If you have to carry this speaker up and down a flight of stairs, expect your back to hate you the older you get.

I prefer the model below this one because it's smaller but still hits and has an 18 hour battery. It can also be found for about half this price.

Samsung page for all 3 models. I have all 3 (each went on sale at different times for very low prices). They can be put in group play mode to play together.

I snagged a refurb Samsung MX-ST5CB/ZA off of Woot! back in March for under $120 and was so blown away by how good it was, I started watching this MX-ST90B model. When the deal came up to get it for $350 a couple of months ago, I bit. One of my main hobbies is home theater which had a natural progression to enjoy/appreciate high end audio equipment (both home and portable). These Samsung speakers are FANTASTIC.... as long as you can accept some minor issues that accompany them.

The form factor of these speakers is excellent for sound dispersion and it really does a great job filling a room (or yard). When I ordered my MX-ST90B, I sold the smaller variant to a friend but later grew to regret that.

Others have noted it but this model does not have a battery. Once you experience the size of the speaker, you kind of understand why. It is an absolute monster weighing ~50lbs or so. The smaller models with batteries still put out very loud sound and are far more feasible for portability.

The next issue is the Samsung app created for these speakers. I think this line of products would have been a much bigger hit if they didn't seemingly create a buggy app and then all but abandon it. Don't even bother with downloading the app. It is garbage in every aspect.

The last and most frequently encountered annoyance with these speakers is that you have to manually connect to the unit after you power it on.... every time. I'm not sure who was in on the hardware/software design of these speakers that thought this feature was necessary considering almost every other Bluetooth device out there is designed to automatically connect to its paired device but, they messed up. If you plan to use this speaker often, prepare to have the device you are streaming from on hand to go through the steps of finding and connecting to the speaker. It seems small and I did get used to it quickly... but still annoying.

Other than that, these are POWERFUL and sound fantastic, even at max volumes. I put mine outside on my front steps and as I walked to the far side of my driveway, was brave enough to turn it all the way up. It sounded like we were having a block party and I quickly turned it back down for fear that the nearest neighbors (about 80 yards away), or other houses on the street would start coming outside to see where the concert was lol.

A fun fact I was able to find out about these speakers by owning two different models was that the party sync options work across all of the models. If you end up getting smaller variants, they should be able to quickly pair up and play in sync.

At the end of the day, I enjoyed this speaker but only as a stationary unit in a manufacturing environment. For home use, any of the smaller versions with a battery would be more than enough for 90% of people and will have the added bonus of battery power on the go.

These don't have a battery despite some incorrect descriptions around the web. These sound really good for outside parties however they are MASSIVE. Definitely not something that's hidden.

No way I would spend that much money for a non-stereo speaker.
