I think this is a good deal. It's only $150 more than I spent on my 5700x3D, on a newer platform, has better performance overall (gaming and productivity), and I think this is a Dark Horse Deal in the CPU market. For 5900x/5950x owners this is a good upgrade and for AM4-x3D owners also get a good upgrade and entry into a new platform.
Imagine starting with this CPU on AM5, as an upgrade from a 5700x3D or 5900x....you get better gaming AND productivity and a New Platform. This 7900x3D should be viable for long enough if you decide to sit on it, and maybe even have the option to upgrade to Zen6 (Ryzen 10k-Series?) or even Zen7 (Ryzen 11k-Series)?
I think this is a good place to start on AM5, and have a good gaming beast. A 7600x3D would be a better entry to the platform, but it doesn't exist.

Superstitious? Like Intel has all kinds of issue since 13000 & it's not getting better! I smell rat(s).
