The two software works together while you are in your home.
AdGuard filters website based on the filtering lists you enabled, and allow cosmetic filtering (aka, removing ads from a webpage when both loaded from the same source). AdGuard Home does DNS filtering and don't do cosmetic.
If you have the ability to build/configure a Raspberry Pi computer, go with Pi-Hole.
AdGuard - ad blocker while away from home
PiHole - ad block at home
Revanced (or SmartTube for TV) - ad free youtube (android only)
ublock origin - Firefox, browser based ad blocker

I find I need to use all of these to block all ads... and a few still get by.

Adguard home (with hagezi pro/threat identification and oisd big lists) for my home devices

Nextdns (same lists as above minus threat identification) for mobile devices with private dns. No VPN is needed

Blocks most ads and trackers wherever I am

Does this include VPN service? Also can anyone comment on content filtering for kids?

I use Pi-hole but it never blocks Youtube ads or twitch ads for me. Is there a blocklist to help with the issue?

I don't think I've enabled any of those, but every now and need to temporarily allow an app to bypass the adguard VPN to allow me to use it, or sign in, or some other function.
These were "allowed" by default in the settings. There were some options I felt comfortable choosing not to allow but these three concerned me, especially the first two listed. I searched online "should I allow..." but it wasn't clear to me if not allowing them would create problems. I'll try the program out first to see how it works and then not allow the first two and see if anything changes.

I usually check the privacy settings on programs I install. Third parties don't need my info but this one looks different. Who is the third party signing in... me or someone else? Payment handlers might block me when I, for example, choose PayPal. Once I try the program, I'll probably be able to manually activate AdGuard when I want to block ads and leave it off all other times. Wonder if it works on SD ads? I guess I'll find out. Smilie

How do you filter through PiHole when not at home?
Change your device dns over https/dns over tls to use an adblocking server:
  • Public servers: Adguard Public DNS or Mullvad Public DNS with block lists controlled by the respective providers
  • NextDNS and adguard-dns: Free limited/paid services that allow you to customize the block lists.
I personally host blocky on a vps and use my own lists.

If you're on mobile, Adguard works around the issue by sharing the video with "adguard player"

Sort of. You need to share the video with "adguard player." It doesn't work in the native app, you need to use the browser.

Does anyone know if this blocks YouTube ads in iOS mobile Safari, not the app?
According the adguard website [adguard.com], yes.

"AdGuard for iOS (AppStore free) is a rare app that can block YouTube ads not only in Safari, but also in the YouTube app.

To watch YouTube without ads on your iOS device do the following:
  1. Open the YouTube app.
  2. Choose a video and tap Share.
  3. Tap More, then select Block YouTube Ads (by AdGuard).
AdGuard will open its ad-free video player."

AD Guard is great, is use it on a dedicated device while sailing to prevent pop ups and other things, works best on an android device rather than IOS, I just route all my traffic thru it and it weeds out the bad stuff. Makes visiting costal anime sights very enjoyable.

No, it has many lists for content filtering as it does provide a DNS server.

This is the weak link of Adguard: use local VPN.
The reason that I have stopped using Adguard (paid) version because of many sensitive services (apps, software, websites) refuse the connection while Adguard is ON.

Same. Many web pages basically force me to turn it off and even the SlickDeals app won't open links when it's turned on. If you're getting this for mobile I suggest the Brave browser or DuckDuckGo and save your money. When it works it works well, but many sites can now detect it.

I've been using adguard on my iPhone, desktop and laptop. And IMO changing my iPhone to the adguard dns is a better experience than running the adguard paid service because it draws quite a bit of battery power but it does a good job at blocking apps for several apps I use.

The desktop pc version is better than the iPhone version, a lot more customizable options. I use it to block certain kinda websites and it does a better job than the WiFi router I have. But it's not a perfect solution. And anyone can change the DNS to adguards free dns service.

Its good for blocking adds in apps and websites. But it doesn't always block YouTube ads

Lately I think adguard has gotten worse because certain websites and apps the ads aren't blocking as well.

And some important websites I use, certain aspects of various websites I goto are getting blocked. Sorta like a false positive.

It's not a perfect solution but it's good for ads and also for families trying to protect your children from unwholesome influences.

Oh and I forgot. Sometimes it blocks slickdeals links which can get a little annoying

Warning: AdGuard was founded in Moscow and is still operated by russians as far as I know. No matter what they say about servers and jurisdiction not being in russia anymore, it's all about people who control the app and how they can be influenced to do things they might not even want to do.

Consider credit theft for example.
