The limitation is the 1TB. Come on apple give us at least 2TB in this day and age.
Me looking at this like those 2 mil houses.
Arguably better than the Costco deal that ended yesterday (M3 Pro 16' 36/512 $2399, or M3 Max 36/1T $2999).
But if you can hold until black friday, aggressive macbook deals are on the way.

I am in the process of moving everything to apple because I am tired of windows/android machines breakdown or becomes slow within 5 years. I already have an iPad and recently bought an iPhone pro max 15. I was looking for a deal on m3/m2 macbook and this is good. I hope that the macbook isn't hard to learn.

So I just got the 36 gb version 3 weeks ago for the same price. Debating if it's worth returning and getting this one. Do I need 48 gb no but it's the same price.

I have a 64 gb variant of the 14 m3 max and it really doesn't make a difference with most day to day tasks

Keep in mind this is the 40 core variant as well not just the increased memory.

You can run local LLM models although memory is a bit low.
I run local LLMs on an M1 Pro with 32 GB of RAM without any problems. They run quickly and faster than on my RTX 3070 (only 8 GB of RAM). Maybe I can't run the largest models, but few people are able to run those, unless they have TBs of RAM.

You can turn off auto-renew and your membership will end after the subscribed 1-year period is up. Your benefits will last until that 1-year is up as well, you don't lose them just because you turn off auto-renew.

I'm not sure if Best Buy offers a prorated refund option if you want to cancel the membership entirely before the 1-year is up. My guess would be no, since many people only subscribe to take advantage of deals like this...they don't want people jumping in for a free $500 coupon just to immediately leave and get a refund on their membership.
They gave me $50 best but reward to sign up for it. It expires in a month but it's still $50.

So...a $3,000 MacBook that lasts 10-years, or a $1,500 Windows/Linux that lasts 5-years. Doesn't that basically work out to the exact same cost per year...LOL. Honestly, going with a $1,500 Windows/Linux for 5-years, and then upgrading to a new $1,500 Windows/Linux for the next 5-years, seems like a substantially better choice. You get to upgrade halfway through the 10-years and get all kinds of new technologies that might be out, versus stuck with 10-year (or older) technology, even if it still works just fine.
That's exactly the cost-benefit analysis people should be doing.

I used to use mainly Macs (and Linux), then to save money up front I switched to Windows (and Linux). After some time with Windows, I calculated that I spent about the same money either way with laptops running Windows or Macs once I factored in resale values and other costs over time. Because of that, I went back to Macs for laptops (in my experience, the Mac laptops I've owned have cost me less over time than Windows ones). I do not generally buy these highest end Macs though. They are much more power than I need for a personal device.

My desktop runs Windows because I like to upgrade it over time and use it for some gaming.

I never said it was "unbelievable" that some people *MIGHT* be using this for actual professional video editing. I just think for "Professional AV Editors, Developers, Etc" it's like 2% max. Why are you so livid on my comment? Answer the question, get it done. I disagree, they sell so little of these machines. This kind of power? Outside of Video editing, they are mostly useless.. who's using this to browse the net? Yoooooo shake head

What the hell, we can buy a $500 Macbook on many outlets to get the "Mac" experience.. what's the point of this? Can someone give me a real response? I ask again, are you professional video editors for movie studios, or some chump change youtube channel? Roll out, let's hear?

What do you use lightroom and photoshop for? For your own family photos.. or? I'm genuinely curious. I asked others about this. Do you need a $3k box for that? Definitely not. If you can tell me otherwise, i'll believe. Cheers
lol why you so angry if people decide to spend their money on this to browse YouTube or not. They taking your money to pay for it or something?

I got one mostly cause I wanted a 16" promotion with a HDMI already built in. Starting price for a Mac like this is $2500 but you also only getting 18gb/512gb which in my case isn't gonna cut it and I refuse to hamper myself with low storage like I have in the past.

I do use a software for 3D modeling which would be the only thing that might even push this even the slightest. Plan on keeping this for 10 years min just like I did with my last MacBook Pro.

I didn't take your money to pay for it and no I don't need your suggestion of getting some PC or how an Air would accomplish running the software while being cheaper. And most people don't care.

Now continue on asking everyone why they bought an iPhone pro if they are only using instagram when they could have gotten an SE.

Looks like you can cancel bestbuy total membership from the app and get 49.99 back within 60 days. But will Bestbuy claw back the savings?

Picked one up to refresh a 3.5 year old 14" M1 Pro. Stacked new BB Visa ($150 instant reward certificate, $500 "promised" but not counting on it #becauseprofits). Included my old M1 Pro as a trade-in ($750) and will wait until I get the new one to commit to letting go of it. This laptop will be for business use so the write-off brings the out of pocket cost down to $1650 or thereabout, before Best Buy reward certificates. To those looking at machines like this as some sort of exotic car, THIS is how you do it.

This is a great deal. I paid $2875 + tax for the 36gb 30-core and I'm tempted to upgrade.

If you need extra storage the sdcard adapters that sit flush in the slot on the MacBook Pros are a good option. Something like this:

True question and not a hater.. but what do you guys use these $3k macbooks for? Are all of you professional video editors? I just don't get these for normal people outside of professional video/audio editing. What's the push for regular users to purchase something like this, that can't be done from a $1500 PC equivalent with a much better GPU.
Regular users don't need this. For professional software development, video editing, 3D rendering, large language models, that sort of thing, this is a great machine.

But even as a professional I would get a MacBook Air for my personal (web browsing) machine and a windows PC for gaming. Exactly like you said. You are right it doesn't make sense for most people. No one is trying to convince you otherwise.
