Arguably better than the Costco deal that ended yesterday (M3 Pro 16' 36/512 $2399, or M3 Max 36/1T $2999).
But if you can hold until black friday, aggressive macbook deals are on the way.

What does one do with these specs? I bet even with these specs you still can't game on high settings
If you buy a Mac for gaming you're doing it wrong. I love Macs for productivity but after decades I've just flat out given up on them for gaming. For games you'll get similar performance to a 4070/4080 mobile out of this chip (assuming the game is actually ported to Mac and running natively on ARM). It's ... serviceable ... but you'd be crazy to buy the machine for that reason.

if not in a hurry, i'd say wait for the M4 Pro/Max chip, it probably will blow this thing to water. (based on M4 vs. M3 performance).
Just wait for the 8 GB / 256GB M4 Air base models for $1400 😂

True question and not a hater.. but what do you guys use these $3k macbooks for? Are all of you professional video editors? I just don't get these for normal people outside of professional video/audio editing. What's the push for regular users to purchase something like this, that can't be done from a $1500 PC equivalent with a much better GPU.

If you buy this one, it might last for 10 years. A $1500, 5-year-lasting windows/linux laptop can't have this configuration.
Edit: actually, buying 2 https://slickdeals.net/f/17674017-dell-precision-5480-on-clearance-as-low-as-1154-i9-13900h-64gb-512gb-rtx-2000-ada is better.

I'm not sure where you get the idea that regular users are purchasing these, nor why you think it's that unbelievable that there are a decent amount of Professional AV Editors, Developers, Etc. on Slickdeals, who could benefit from this deal.

I mean, I think this is the best price there has ever been on this model, and there are only 22 comments and 18 upvotes. It doesn't really scream "regular users are jumping all over this" to me, moreso, a "a select few slickdealers who actually do need this kind of power" are the ones purchasing.

Anyway, yeah, no reason for a normal user to get this, other than if they want to have some kind of status symbol (or feeling) in relation to the laptop they use, or if they just have massive amounts of money to waste, and it doesn't matter to them. Might as well get the best in a scenario where money isn't an issue.

I have a similar system and it's fantastic, would highly recommend it. I use Lightroom and photoshop and it's amazing. I would say maybe get the m4 that's coming end of this year. This fab was discontinued and they have the m4 on a new one. But amazing price, the m3 max is really really fast

Best Buy plus is a years sub
I get that. But do I wait until the day before the sub renews to cancel? On the day of? The day after? I just don't wanna find myself in a situation where the fee auto-renews and I gotta pay a non-refundable $50 a second time.

So...a $3,000 MacBook that lasts 10-years, or a $1,500 Windows/Linux that lasts 5-years. Doesn't that basically work out to the exact same cost per year...LOL. Honestly, going with a $1,500 Windows/Linux for 5-years, and then upgrading to a new $1,500 Windows/Linux for the next 5-years, seems like a substantially better choice. You get to upgrade halfway through the 10-years and get all kinds of new technologies that might be out, versus stuck with 10-year (or older) technology, even if it still works just fine.

You can turn off auto-renew and your membership will end after the subscribed 1-year period is up. Your benefits will last until that 1-year is up as well, you don't lose them just because you turn off auto-renew.

I'm not sure if Best Buy offers a prorated refund option if you want to cancel the membership entirely before the 1-year is up. My guess would be no, since many people only subscribe to take advantage of deals like this...they don't want people jumping in for a free $500 coupon just to immediately leave and get a refund on their membership.

The one from Costco is 14 core CPU, 30 core GPU with lower memory bandwidth, that plus 36GB is quite different. Bestbuy still carries the same model with a $2999 price tag. This deal is quite better if you need the power.

You're paying for the Mac experience. If you don't want it, then this isn't for you.
