A series x costs 3 times as much and lacks Dolby vision and HDR10+.

Owning both the 820 & 420, I would agree.
I'll take the HCX and Optimizer processing over DV.

Not all content has DV, even then depending on the transfers, the Optimizer does so well the difference isn't that big.
You can look at Samsung Oled display threads to see how people don't miss DV.

If you play BR/DVD disc, the 420s processing would be a better choice with that.

Has anyone used this since it last popped up in the beginning of July? What are your thoughts?
Thanks.

Between 450 & 420, the 420 has a better upscaler & HDR Optimizer but no Dolby Vision. The 450 has an upscaler built in but the algorithm isnt as good as the one in the 420 & no HDR Optimizer.

I purchased it during Prime Day it is pretty good. The remote is cheap I think you can buy an after-market one to replace it. I don't think the better chip in the 420 is needed if you have a newer TV since newer TVs have much more powerful chips. I have tried a few 4k UHD Blu-rays so far and I've had no issues.

For reference, I have a 65in LG G4

I got the 420 open-box for $149 at Best Buy. Every 4k blu-ray works great on the 420. Look for open boxes at Best Buy for a good price!

We picked this up on the last recent sale. No issues with Blu-ray so far. I like the feature of skipping all the ads and just going right to the movie when putting a disk in. We watched The Grinch (Jim Carrey) DVD and it would not play after half way. No visible issues with the disk so not sure what the issue is. It sort of felt like a region lock issue I've had on a laptop but would just take us to the extra feature after a few seconds. All the labels are English (the last thread pointed out the product images were in a foreign language). There is one physical issue I've noticed. The eject button doesn't respond randomly so you have to press it a few times to open/close.

Particularly the ones that show you every highlight of the movie, over and over. If I wanted to see the movie, I'd, you know, play the movie.

If u google ub450, bunch of links related to forum discussions pop up. Users have said they don't see any difference between 450 and 820. Certainly not extra 250$ worth. I'm tempted. If some dvds don't play or 4k disc layers get skipped then can't help it. X700m is 10$ more but it can skip frames. So annoying that there is no < 200$ option that can just play. Ub420 doesn't count as it doesn't have dv. Plenty of discs have dv today.

I researched these models.

For 4k blu rays with Dolby vision, this is ideal.

For FHD blu rays & DVDs, the 420 is better due to the upscaling processor.

For the best of both, get the 820 (which I chose)

How does something like this or 420 version compare to a PS4 for playing blurays?
