They're not. They abandoned an official driver for this model and just push Asio4All which is generally pretty terrible. I ditched this thing a few months ago and would not recommend anyone purchase it.

The million dollar question is that why do "I" need this?

What does an audio interface do?
An audio interface is a device that connects your computer to musical instruments, microphones, and other audio equipment, allowing you to record, play, and process sound with your computer. It acts as a bridge between the analog and digital worlds of audio.

While the audio on computers, cameras, phones, and tablets are getting better each year, it is understandably often not a priority. An audio interface is specifically designed to give you high-quality audio in and out of your device, so you should get an improved audio quality over using your built-in sound cards.

It's worth noting that all of the interfaces are on sale. 404, 1820, mics, mixers, patch bays, DI boxes.

Tons of Behringer deals.

Krause did a review 5 years ago. Seemed to have driver issues then, presumably fixed by now? His reviews of newer Behringer interfaces were better.

That said, if you're really into audio you would probably spend a little more than $40 on an interface to get something a little more robust, even the newer Behringer models.

I used to use one of these, but Behringer's driver situation was terrible. The "official" driver was the crummy ASIO4ALL audio driver that's a pain to deal with. The quality of the hardware seems fine, but the usability was so bad I didn't hesitate to upgrade to a Scarlett Solo when I was able to get one for $100. Big price difference, but the difference in ease of use is even bigger. Love the Solo.

Maybe they have proper drivers now and it's not a massive headache to use. Or even if they don't maybe you have a dedicated audio workstation PC that you can set and forget with ASIO4ALL - but in that case you can probably justify something better.

For what it's worth, I believe models above the UMC22 did have proper drivers. But I don't have any experience with those.

ChatGPT is that you?

Here's my answer:
It allows you to plug condenser mics (studio mics) or dynamic mics (stage mics) into your computer.
Of course, it can be a little more complicated than that, but this should be enough to get you started.

It's a cheap audio interface that will get your 48v mic working and that is it. I had one and the preamp had a noticable noise floor. If you can, get a Scarlette Solo it's miles better

The U-Phoria 202HD, 204HD, and 404HD all seem to have price drops on sweetwater and amazon. Well the 404HD is still full price at amazon but the rest are on sale.

I have been waiting on a price drop on the 204. At only $10 more than the 202, it offers additional outputs plus a midi interface.

Bought a umc22 as a backup to my motu m2. Gonna put it in the office to noodle in my free time. And maybe buy a cheap mic for teams… hopefully the latency isn't too horrid. What a deal !

Been using these interfaces for years. Own several.

Pair with a a cloud lifter or Klark Teknik preamp/booster for more demanding dynamic mics and you're in business!

If you're right, appreciate you saving me the deep dive to find that answer.

Even if you're not, in conjunction with the other commenters it seems there's enough smoke here to call it a pass despite the attractive price point.

Thx all around, lads.

Yeah I would go with Focusrite , Motu or Audient instead. However prepare to spend about $100.
