I dislike how the handle is tapered, thicker in the middle and thinner at the sides. The thicker middle part digs into my palm and my thumb and index finger can't get a secure wrap around the thinner part. It's even more of a problem with the heavier ones, 30lb+

Totally agree with your assessment! Don't get dumbbells with tapered handles, you'll regret it.

Also when i do exercises such as bent over rows, where the handle is mostly on my fingers, the weight is not evenly distributed across the fingers. I feel more of the weight on my middle finger and less on the others, which is annoying, if you see what I mean. Again, it's the heavy dumbbells that are the problem.

I guess the aggressiveness of the taper also may make a difference. I just don't like mine.

For what it's worth, I really like the taper. I didn't even realize the set I had been building was mostly tapered, until I bought a 30 lb set that wasn't ( 35, 40, 45 lb all tapered). The straight, not tapered, makes my fingers cramp. I do have larger hands, XL gloves usually. Just my two cents.

So now I have a full set for all practical purposes and only had to buy half as many dumbbells and two pairs of magnets. Saves a lot of money and space in the home gym.
