Right. Initially they were saying only desktop chips were affected but now it's being reported that laptop chips as well, especially this one as it clocks over 5Gh.

I can't believe retailer and Intel is still selling these. They're basically ticking time bombs and Intel is making it really hard for general folks to understand the problem. Laptops are big purchases; I feel so bad for folks buying one hoping it would last them years.

I'm grateful I found out about the Intel woes before I bought a laptop.
This same Legion, but with a Ryzen 9 7945HX, 2TB SSD and 32GB RAM costs me $2038 from the original Lenovo website, so I might get that.

If I'm not mistaken the issue is caused by excessive voltage causing oxidation. You aren't going to get nearly as much voltage on a laptop as a desktop chip because it greatly increases power.
I personally have this same chip in my legion 5 and it's been fine. I also haven't seen any reports of laptop chips failing. Not saying it's impossible but I'd consider it much lower risk than the desktop parts where people are upping voltage and overclocking. Running this thing stock and it should last for years. Buy whatever is cheapest and don't worry so much about it.
