I returned the lower (now $530) spec version envy for a lenovo ideapad with the same specs as this one at about the same price (594). I instantly regreted it. The envy was so much nicer. Metal case, thinner, windows hello vs fingerprint, screen was more sensitive, ran smoother. I have since returned the lenovo, and may get the open box "excellent" which I think is my pristine return, or this higher spec version. I always heard lenovo was the quality, but not vs the envy (maybe yoga or something)...

I think that user quoted you by mistake. It was probably meant for the person who said the laptop was eWaste because of the 16gb.

The Ryzen 5/512gb version is $530 which may suite some people better although it has been as low as $500 in the past.

I don't trust their open box ratings at all. My last open box excellent was a scratched up display model with zero accessories, not even a charger. It came in a plain cardboard box; I was lucky I opened right then and there to see what I was getting.

Can you elaborate? I'm not certain what this means. Looking for a laptop for my college bound son who will be studying computer science/cybersecurity

Not relevant for IT, but for photo/video editing and design it's not good. Poor color accuracy.

Shame it is eWaste with that amount of soldered RAM.16GB is minimum spec. Just enough to open chrome and do not much else.

Shame it is eWaste with that amount of soldered RAM.16GB is minimum spec. Just Let me break it down for you: 16GB of RAM is far from 'just enough.' It's the sweet spot for almost every use case out there—whether you're juggling 50 Chrome tabs, running complex Excel spreadsheets, or even doing some light video editing.
Sure, soldered RAM means you can't upgrade it later, but here's the thing: most people aren't even pushing the limits of 16GB. For the vast majority, this is more than enough to run everything smoothly. And let's not forget that soldered RAM generally means better power efficiency and stability—something you'd appreciate if you knew what you were talking about.
So, unless you're running a data center or trying to compile the next version of Linux from scratch, 16GB is going to serve you just fine for years. Maybe before you start throwing around terms like 'eWaste,' you should take a hard look at what you actually need versus what you think you need.enough to open chrome and do not much else.

Hey, don't let those horrible takes get to you. The HP ENVY x360 you're looking at is a solid choice for your son who's heading into computer science and cybersecurity. With the Ryzen 7 8840HS, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD, he's got more than enough power to handle anything college throws at him—whether it's running virtual machines, coding, or just multitasking with a bunch of tabs open.

how is this envy compared with lenovo ideapad or flex if they are of same specification?
