This player is accepted nearly unanimously as the best 4K player on the market, with 4K upscaling for older content and Dolby Vision. This is the cheapest it's been since BF/CM, when it dipped below $350.

I was able to pick one up with the current AmEx $30 discount for $356 plus taxes.

Interesting that both the 450 and now the 820 have dropped on Amazon. Curious if this is a new lower price or if this means they will be going lower on Black Friday this year.

Either way, I still haven't been able to figure out if the 820 actually offers any higher quality over the 450 for 4k disc playback on a modern OLED TV.

For a 4k disc, maybe not? For 1080p blu-rays, or dvd content, the 820 would be better with the optimizer chip.

I would add with HDR content also especially since not all content has Dolby Vision.

Bought one used off FB a few weeks back. Definitely does a great job of upscaling 1080p Blu-ray's on a Dolby Vision compatible 4K HDTV.

Isn't an Xbox Series X or PS5 better?

Neither supports Dolby Vision, which is important to some people.
