I've had these for a year, I paid $250 refurb and they are phenomenal. When I bought them I saw some reviews and found they are comparable to similarly priced Bose. Airplanes are sooo much more enjoyable now

Got this during Prime Day(s) and LOVE it! Was also considering the Bose but very happy with my ultimate decision to go with the XM4. It's difficult to imagine anyone looking for NC headphones in the $200 range being disappointed in these.

I can't really comment on the sound quality, but I went with the XM4s because they're foldable and the XM5s are not. I use them a lot when traveling and the XM5s in their case take up significantly more space which is kind of a dealbreaker for me.

My QC broke and I heard nothing but rave reviews about the Sony's for years and I pulled the trigger. I personally hate the mx4. Sound is great, great noise canceling but what drives me insane. When driving or someplace windy. I need to turn off the noise canceling for people to hear me. Then the touchpad control is great but slight touches hangs up phone calls and sometimes puts on a mode that when it hears a voice it pauses audio I am listening too. I will personally go back to my Bose after this.

I have the XM5s and had the XM4s and XM3s. I noticed a big difference from 3 to 4, but not 4 to 5. I don't think the 5s are worth it.

Have these as my daily for about the past year or so. They sound solid and the build quality is great for plastic. Comfortable and they do everything well sonically. Noise cancelling works just as well. Can't go wrong with these.

Lots of people that have tried both actually prefer the XM4's. It's enough to be 'controversial'. The XM5's primarily introduced an Apple-wannabe design and some alleged slight improvements in NC and Microphone (for the subset audience that actually uses the mic frequently enough for that to be a factor!).

It's not, imo (and many others) that they 'improved' the NC as much as they changed the profile, which some favor while others do not. Honestly, I think the physical design change is the only 'big' change. And therein lies the controversy. Not enough tangible performance improvement to write home about (more of a 'change' than 'improved') and a physical design that harkens to the Apple Airpod Max.

I'd take brand new XM4 over open-box XM5 at $199 all day long. It's a pick 'em at the same price made easier by open-box.
