I stumbled across this while looking at the deal for the big HomePod, but I'm second-guessing buying this. My situation is one where I want a mini upstairs for intercom/siri stuff/music/etc, but I'm anticipating a HomePod update later this year with Apple Intelligence. I pulled the trigger on the big HomePod because I'm using it for home theater stuff, but as a standalone for upstairs I think I'll wait to see if Apple releases a new one later this year.
For music, the Homepod Mini will pummel the echo dot's plastic sound.
For answering questions or controlling your home, anything is better than Siri.
We're all still waiting for a device that will let us have our cake and eat it too. I'm absolutely shocked we haven't seen something hit the market yet that has more AI infused and can answer questions without "try again from your iphone" and "I can't find a song named 'what is the tempermature outslide' in your library".

Good deal though. Your situation may vary.
I have one HomePod mini on my desk and I really want to add one more to give it the stereo effect but if I was buying these to keep around the house, I would also wait for one to have Apple Intelligence

Which deal for the full sized? I grabbed 2 during Verizon sale and love the audio, although we use Echo devices for everything except music.
Nevermind, I see it now, $230. If they were $175 again I'd consider picking another 1 up for another room, but not at $230.

Right now in my bedroom I have an Echo Dot and it's great for things like asking her questions, turning lights off etc but for music it's really lacking.
Is this decent for listening to music or should I just hold out for a deal on the big one?

Don't be surprised if there's a Homepod update later this year or next year. Especially with Apple Intelligence on the horizon.
At least with this item at Costco, the usual anytime for any reason return policy applies (see on the item page that the 90 day return policy does not apply for Homepod Mini).
So you can get the item now, and see if it's worth upgrading when the new version comes out.

For me, the closest that you can get is Sonos, with Alexa and Siri enabled.

The across the board sale on these feels like they have to be clearing inventory for a new model right? Or is this move of a back to school sale maybe?
I don't feel like I've seen anything in the rumor mill about a homepod mini replacement planned soon.

It definitely packs a punch for its size and it could do about 85% of the actual HomePod

what exactly are you going to be able to do with Apple Intelligence on a HomePod? Seriously? And chances are Apple Intelligence is going to be under a pay wall. I hope Apple Intelligence isn't the bust like Apple vision is
I switched from echos to home pod minis and it's been fine. As others have mentioned, Siri is not great, but I only use it for controlling lights, AC and listening to Apple Music. The main reason I switched was due to the fact that Apple Music works much better and sounds much better with the home pods. Siri works just fine for my needs.
Heads up these are great I love mine but they are not Bluetooth. They use Airplay to play directly from devices or you can just talk to them send they can play on their own.
