Does it use proprietary parts? Is there extra I/O to add more ram and drives?

I bought an hp omen from best buy about two years ago. My nvidia 3080 graphics card died. Nvidia wouldn't honor it, told me since I bought it in an hp they'd have to honor warranty. Hp only offers one year warranty unless you pay extra. Just letting you all know

Am I the only one who is bothered by the 8GB RAM / 512GB SSD configuration? Paying HP to bump those up is not cost effective at $100 each. And doing it yourself is not worth the extra cost AND effort. There are better deals out there.

I'd say it's not bad for someone who can't build themselves.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/nP7zt7

Even using bad parts it's difficult to get it to the same price.
Prebuild may have locked mobo tho

For the right person this is a "no build fee' system

Judging by the comments most don't know how to add a stick of ram and plug in a hard drive ...

$50 more than this deal for 32gb of ram and a 2tb m.2.
$10 for a windows key.

Only applies if you know how to build obviously.

It has nothing to do with that. It's about cost.

Not a terrible option if you *really* can't build your own and aren't looking for something crazy. I threw together a build matching this one and it costs $743 in parts (without Windows) see https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cGsqGP. So, think of this like paying $30 for the Windows OS and someone to put it together.

The 0.5 TB of storage and 8 GB of RAM will probably need upgrading, I would imagine.

The reason this wouldn't be that great of an option is because for just a bit more you could make some huge upgrades:

* Upgrading the 0.5 TB of storage can literally save money over the Western Digital Black SN770 500 GB if you go with another brand, for example you can get 1-2 TB drives for the same price.
* Upgrading the measly 8 GB of RAM is cheap, the 8GB of 5200MHz RAM costs $31 while the same brand 16GB 6000MHz RAM is $39 more, and the Teamgroup 32GB 6000MHz memory is just $55 more. Quadruple the memory and better RAM for $55 is a great option.
* For about $182, the Ryzen 7600 is a fine budget choice, but there are options out there that will perform better & be relevant for longer at a good price, for example the Ryzen 7700X is only $95 more.
* Same with the RTX 4060, it's a fine budget choice, but at $280 it's steep for it's performance. The RX 6700 XT, for example, is the same price but has 50% more memory (12GB vs 8GB). Or, if you have a little more budget, the RX 7700 XT is ~$100 more for 27% better performance compared to the RTX 4060. The RX 7800 XT is ~$200 more for 48% better performance.

The BIOS is locked and won't let you change the RAM settings. Also, I upgraded my CPU, and now the HP software detects my new CPU, preventing me from upgrading to Windows 11. I'm speaking from experience, avoid HP Omen PCs at all costs.

Yea their QA post Covid..... I bought two HP Omen directly from HP. One 3060ti and one 3080 died in a row. Returned both. I then just watched videos and built my own.
