The surge impact is better for screws, lags, and stuff like that. You get less peak torque but it's more sustained which is what you want for driving. Works just fine with hex spade bits too. Less likely to snap fasteners or bits in my experience. Much much quieter ... but still not "quiet" in absolute terms.
This, and the non-surge version, compliment but don't replace a proper impact wrench when it comes to stuck bolts and break-away torque. Keep that in mind if you're fastening more than screws or small bolts.
Just kidding yes this is overkill for that but it can be used for that. You could also just buy the cheapest Hart drill at Walmart and that would work for that was well. Depends if you want to get into a big long term eco system like milwaukee...ie what tools you want to eventually own. Any milwaukee tool is going to be upper end price wise. But....this deal does not come with a charger and if you do the hack you don't get the battery either.
