A ticket for 9:30 PM for tonight (Friday) for Deadpool, regular screen (no iMax, no 3D, no 4Dx) is $20.99 at my local Queens Regal Cinemas theatre. That's more than your entire "normal price"... for ONE TICKET.
You might say... that's a scam, don't go. Fine. Then you'll never go to the movies ever again. At least not in NYC! Or any other major city, I would guess!
I remember just before Covid, right after the high of Avengers Endgame... a movie theatre exec was saying how GREAT it is go see a movie. With the incredible special effects, the immersive surround sound, the new 4Dx technology that stimulates all your other senses (it shakes your seat, sprays you with water, pokes you and can release different scents as needed)... its BETTER than going to a Broadway show! With stadium seating and recliner seats, there's never an "obstructed view" situation! He said if people are willing to pay $100-150 to see a show on Broadway, no reason why they shouldn't be willing to pay just as much for, arguably, a much better experience at the theater.
Indeed, just before Covid shutdown, I do remember some places where charging $24-26 for primetime tickets.

2 tricks 4 bucks
1 popcorn 4 bucks
So 20 bucks should be normal price. Anything higher is a scam.
