I'm new to Ryobi, please help. Are the HP batteries compatable with all tools or only certain tools. I just ordered a Ryobi stick vac and expect to get a couple more tools, under $100 for 2 x 6 ah HP (hacked) feels like a great deal provided they are useful to me.

All Ryobi batteries are compatible with all Ryobi tools including the old blue tools from the Ni-Cd days that us long time Ryobi guys still have. HP batteries use better cells and have an extra tab for certain tools that draw more amps. Personally, just for the cells alone, I only use HP batteries since their arrival. The new EDGE batteries are starting to release for the next upgrade to the platform. I have the dual roller stick vac and it requires 1 9Ah battery to sweep 2300 sq ft of hardwood floors. I use the 6Ah on drills and drivers when doing large projects or lights and fans. 9Ah for my saws. Never bought a 12Ah because they never had a good price on them.
I bought a 18 GA and 15 GA nail gun for a project last year and thought both were just garbage using the standard Ryobi batteries. The nails would frequently fail to punch into baseboard far enough to get the "finished" look. I ended up buying a Rigid compressor and nail gun kit that was on sale last winter to finish the project.
I picked up a pair of the 6ah high performance batteries and the Ryobi nail guns worked as well as the pneumatic nail guns. The high performance batteries are definitely worth it.
