great bike even at full price. got one like 3 years ago and maybe ride it 30 times a year. totally worth it for anyone getting older trying to keep up with their kids

Yeah it's got 26 by 4 inch fat tires which add some serious weight. Even 20 by 4s are quite heavy.

I've got this bike and a step thru version. Mostly great bikes with some issues needing servicing over the past two years of ownership. Lots of fun, plenty of assist, and solid build. Biggest complaints are tires still puncture easily and the bike is a tank to load into the truck. Superrr heavy and unwieldy. Overall I don't regret even though I paid $1800. Definitely a steal for 1k.

I bought one last year. It is very heavy which is difficult when loading and unloading if you are transporting it. The battery is bigger as is the engine so when riding uphill I am always the fastest.

I have a stupid question from an e-bike beginner-- does every brand of e-bike use their own proprietary battery or are there standard batteries that many/all brands use? I'm just thinking about the case in a few years where if your battery goes bad but the company doesn't make that type anymore or the company goes under.

Yes, each brand will have their own battery connectors, configuration, placement, etc. All of them however use similar technology within the battery cells themselves. Think about 100 tiny batteries (AA sized roughly), all tied together and bundled to create a battery "pack" that you see on these bikes. In a few years when the battery goes bad, you'd simply recycle it and purchase a new one. I'm sure there are other options and other people in the community that know how to hack the batteries and replace bad cells and re-package them, but by that point you'll know clearly what YOU want to do. I'm 2 years into my two radpower bikes and one is nearly at 1k miles, battery is still like new. Maybe I got lucky, though I do make sure to not store them at too little or too much charge
