Can anybody comment on this specific M3? Do I want a more powerful version? I know the pro comes with a few different versions.

Pretty sure the pro is a lot better than the one they put in the air, but i could be wrong.
Good question, I believe there are 3 different versions (M3, M3 Pro, M3 Max). IMHO this is the middle "sweet spot" model, a great deal.

Like I said, there are faster ones that exist now. I wouldn't use it for video editing or something you need fast storage, use the onboard SSD for that. Use the usb drive as overflow.
I Velcro 2 5TB HDDs and a 2TB SSD on the back of my MacBook along with a hub with an angled type c port, feels super heavy, but at least in one piece, nothing has to be unplugged during transport, and that angle hub is one of a kind in the market lol.

air 13 m3 16/512 $1250 (bought during FL no tax weekend and still in return window)

Pro 14 m3 pro 18/512 $1600 (with tax)

Worth the extra $350 or no????
Depends on what you're using it for, do want a thinner version with less ports?

I was looking at that same configuration during tax free weekend too & I was coming from 2016 MBP 15". I decided to hold out for a deal on the Pro for more future proofing performance. I pulled the trigger on this one, & after tax & cash back rewards I had this will cost me about $1300.

Can you detail how you got it to 1300?

Love the velcro idea. Been thinking about adding a slim NVME drive to my laptop, but need to find a discrete USBC connector so it doesn't get damaged during transport.

This hub I bought specially for the angled grip, which is the only one in the market, I bought it like 5 years back, then it died recently, I had to eBay for the last one on the whole site. If this one dies again, I think I might have to go for the angle couple then to the hub, but it'll make the connector longer and I always try to avoid as little coupler as possible for more native connection and speed. Also there are problems with cheap hubs, let along finding an angled version, I've tested many many hubs, they all slow down my read and write speed, this is the only one that gives me the true speed and it's angled. There was another and only one that's angled like this one, but it also doesn't give me the full speed, so yeah, this is the one and only option.

AAFES price-matched this for me this morning. If you're eligible to use AAFES, that $1,499 shipped with no tax. Unbeatable!

Did the same lol. I got the m1 air from Walmart for $650 then decided I wanted to future proof a bit so looked at the base m3 air for $850 but still 8gb of ram might not give much future proofing. I upgraded the air and the next thing I knew this just made more sense lol.
