I beleive this is an all time low for bundling MH World and the Iceborne dlc (gg shows it as $11, so .50c under that)

I ended up getting this for 10.44 using the 5% off coupon from my last fanatical order

Thanks! I too think this an all time low and to my understanding the Iceborne DLC adds a lot of mechanics to the standard campaign so you are kinda selling yourself short if you don't get it or add the DLC at a later date.

As far as I can tell the "Deluxe Kits" appear to be just cosmetic stuff. Wonder if anyone can confirm or correct me on that.

Also, assuming I was only going to play a single Monster Hunter game, should I play Rise or World?

I have read World is preferred to Rise, I havent played it yet (just purchased World now), I got rise on the switch and it didnt hook me, but I dont have a deep review to give.

As far as the kits, I am pretty sure they are cosmetics, only the base game of world and the Iceborn DLC have any real meat to them so that is what I purchased

I remember paying $30 for a humble bundle, but I am not sure what I got with it.

Thanks, I too was leaning towards World.

If I remember correctly the $30 bundle included pretty much the entire franchise and DLC's. I'd assume you own everything now.

I bought the humble bundle and we have everything in this fanatical bundle. I also think it was the same price.

Edit: These games may have more content available that aren't in either of the above bundles. They have tons of (cosmetic?) dlcs. No idea if they are included with the bundles above.

Yes you are correct the complete bundle with all 8 games is the same price as the humble bundle deal. I feel this deal is for people who don't have the DLC.

Deluxe gives you an armor that you can't get in game and some extra stickers and gestures. None affects the game play. I would recommend world over rise. IMO world is a better game in graphic and design. Monsters feels more real in world than rise. again, that's my personal opinion.

I second this. World has better mechanics and is less forgiving than Rise. Then again, if you don't have the patience for learning attack patterns or tell signs, Rise is definitely more beginner friendly

MH:World, Iceborn has some of the best end game fights. Its graphics are the best to date (until Wilds is released). On Playstation, if you get stuck, call for help, and someone with unpronounceable Asian characters will come and carry you. Unsure if the same is true on PC.

MW:Rise is very friendly to newcomers. Was a Switch game, and ported to PC. It has AI companions later that actually help, vs World, where you gotta get good to beat things if not in multiplayer. That was a big quality of life improvement.

As someone with 1000s of hours in the franchise, I wouldn't go as far as saying "World is preferred over Rise" like some kind of objective fact (If you look at concurrent player counts on Steam, then yeah W is doing better than R, but I'd hesitate to say that's the whole story). I personally prefer World/Iceborne as well, but that's because I enjoy slightly slower and simpler combat. At the end of the day, it really comes down to preference, because the core of the games are honestly pretty similar. I'll write down what I think are each entry's strengths:

W:
  • "Meatier" feeling combat, due to slightly slower game speeds and sound design
  • More realistic and dense environment design and art style
  • A slightly more substantial story, though some people hate it because it "gets in the way of the gameplay." I personally like having more context to the gameplay.
  • Some fantastic cinematic monster fights

R:
  • Quicker/Lighter feeling combat, due to slightly higher game speeds and much more movement options.
  • More complex gameplay with certain attacks being swappable to your preference, and having flashy "super moves" that are on cooldowns
  • Slightly more vibrant cartoony art style. Some say this is a downgrade from W (keep in mind R is a Switch port), but it does come with the benefit of better readability
  • Story and cutscenes are pretty much non existent and skippable, if that's your jam
  • Some great fights, still cinematic (not as much as W), but less reliant on multiplayer systems
