I own two of these from a prior Tractor Supply sale. We use them on Lake Erie as well as in the bays of the Gulf in Alabama and FL. They are decent as fishing Kayaks and for the money, if you're just an occasional user, they are perfect. Are they the best? No. Are they a good value? Yes.

You will spend 3-4 times this to get anything substantially better. If you're serious about the sport and can afford more, skip this deal. If you're an occasional user and don't want to drop $1,000 or more, this is a perfect start.
Bottom line is that they are a lot of fun, are far cheaper than renting when you get to your destination and durable enough to last years. Mine are 4 years old and show no signs of wear. My children like to use them, and I enjoy them too.
Thank you for a normal reply from someone with kids. Repped

Appears most of their kayaks are on sale. If one can go higher up the quality ladder, the 12' Evoke is made well with heavier roto mold plastic.

I HIGHLY suggest you read reviews on kayaks... even if you only plan to use it a few times a year on short outings.

Tracking is a huge issue with cheap kayaks. You do not want to be constantly battling this. It will make the trip out miserable.

That's why adding a skeg is recommended. Of course you can also buy one that comes with a skeg, but if it is preinstalled it will likely make transportation more difficult and if not, you might as well buy one separately (if the pricing is good enough) since you'll need to install it anyway.

A skeg is only normally used in windy or adverse conditions. It should not be needed on calm, flat water. If you have to add a skeg for calm water, the kayak is sh!t. ..... some of the walmart/TSC/target models are terrible in flat water for tracking and stability.

Having to buy additional things to make a kayak function properly isn't a savings.

Sir I need you to show me a kayak worth purchasing then. I thought these were plenty fine. What's a decent kayak worth purchasing? Just looking for something I can go fishing with.

Sea or lake?
Your weight/size?
How long do you plan to stay out? How much gear will you be hauling?

There is no one size fits all scenario.

poor tracking is more of an issue with length. A 12' will track better than a 10' and a 14' kayak will track better then a 12'. One way to improve tracking and glide is to put some weight (25+lbs) in the front to better plant the bow in the water to lessen the right/light effect of the paddle stroke.

skegs are retractable and not used on a sit on design kayak. There is no way to add a skeg. A rudder can be installed sometimes, but a 10'-14' rudder sit on kayak with a rudder is rare. I had a Tarpon 16' with a rudder and the times I needed it were rare and this was when crossing large bodies of water with wind.

I've used a few kayaks over the years, but am no "expert". However, a simple search for "kayak skeg" on e.g. Amazon turns up *tons* of removable skegs that can easily be mounted on a kayak, even an inflatable one. Perhaps 30 years ago it wasn't a "thing" but it's easy peasy to buy and attach a removable one.

Any recommendations for a small 12 acre lake 150# person?

Needs to be sit on top as I leave it at the lake and mice, spiders, snakes are an issue even with a cover. I'd prefer to be and to pop the seat out too and everything plastic hard cover sealed.

You can get a roof rack mount or do like this person did: https://photos-us.bazaarvoice.com...115fe98964
