For what it offers? At this price you're getting more than any other watch at the same price, by probably a fair amount too.

Also, I think it's unlikely that a 975 is close.

REI is offering $100 off same dates so probably going to be multiple retailers offering this. Check the best cash back offers.

Chest strap is for better accuracy. Not critical but some people want the accuracy of a chest strap compared to a wrist monitor.

I think 975 is around the corner and should wait to see before pulling the trigger also 965 is still expensive to what it offers IMHO

My son started cross country in high school and wants to buy 255. Is it worth to pay a bit more to get 265?

The real question is 265 or Epix 2 at the same price?

Worth it is relative but I'm sure the 165 is plenty for what he needs. For myself I haven't been able to justify upgrading my 245.

Both esssentially have the same feature set- the main thing Garmin did was update the display to AMOLED. The old display isn't visually appearing, on purpose to give excellent battery life

I would take the savings and buy a heart rate chest strap for him, if he's interested in optimizing training/using heart rate zones

Either one is a great choice, the display is a night and day difference although its a fitness first watch where the display is like the least important display I own lol

Edit: I have the forerunner 955 and personally can't justify the price to upgrade since it's going to be the same watch in functionality minus the AMOLED

Huh? 255 and 265 have the same heart rate monitor sensor. No need to get a separate chest strap

There's a fair amount of features missing between those two models though. Intervals, virtual partner, and training load amongst them.

Where do they have the Epix 2 for the same price as the 265 in this thread?
