I was interested if they could be used individually wirelessly like joycons, but it looks like No per product questions:
"No, they only work when slotted into the switch they also have no rumble gyro or NFC."

My son and I both have this (he has the Gengar version) and we love them. Neither of us have used our joycons in several months.

I have both this and the Split Pad Pro. I seriously have troubles whenever I go back to the joycons lol

Both are so much better than joycons! For me, the Pro is bit more comfortable for FPS games, but I found myself using the Compact more once I got this case (OLED model):

I saw a review of Mobapad 6 HD joy cons and had to try them. Put in quite a bit of time with them and they're pretty amazing. Hall effect joysticks, mechanical buttons, linear motor hd vibration, extremely comfortable in my hands. It has bunch of other fluff I don't care about, like button programming, amiibo support, six axis motion sensing, faceplate options...

The most important ones IMO are mechanical buttons, Hall effect joysticks, and amazing vibration. And it fits my hands just so well and is so comfortable to hold. Even D-pad is mechanical and is the best I have ever tried. The only d-pad you should use for fighting games.

The huge downside is the price, it's $80. That's a lot, but most reviewers agree it's the best you can have for switch. Also, this is not a controller you want if you're trying to play at night while your significant other is trying to sleep, read a book, watch tv, ect. Mechanical buttons are very clicky and make a lot of noise. You're going to annoy a lot of people during quiet time. Also, I hate the fact that for an $80 controller they didn't even bother to make a middle piece for attaching both halves into stand alone controller like NYXI or Hori does.

I bought their carrying case too, and it's freaking gigantic compared to Hori case because joy cons have quite a bend to them for a comfortable fit/hold. It's like twice thicker than Hori case and probably 4 times bigger than regular case. It's a chunker.

EDIT: I have white, but looks like they also make them in black and pink now.

EDIT 2: For $22 this is a smoking deal on something far superior to originals. Picked one up for a kid.

I have both this version and the larger Split Pad Pro. This one was a little too small for me but it's an excellent choice over Joy Cons. I ended up keeping the Pro because it was latger and works better for my large hands.

I highly recommend the Split Pads. This is the cheapest I've seen one. I paid $27 a year ago.

Love the ergonomics of these, but dang, why is it only ever this color variant that goes on sale?! I want the dark grey or blue ones!

I have this, I paid $29.99 on Amazon. This is my favorite 3rd party controller for the switch. the Rapid fire and button mapping feature is great for lots of games.

Pro version moves your elbows out more and is way more comfortable to play. Haven't tried these, but they have to be better than the regular joy cons.
