Just an FYI. Most USB C 3.1G2 is limited to 10Gbps. You need special interface chips to take advantage of 20Gbps. Some windows machines have one of these ASMedia chips. No macs do. If you dont, you are limited 10 Gbps. Might as well get the great Sabrent 10Gbps enclosure, which is cheaper.

The transfer rate is highly dependent on the SSD that you put inside the enclosure. Most older units are limited to 5 or 8 Gps which will be the limiter for the actual transfer rate. The quoted 20 Gps is highly unlikely without newer USB-C ports and newer high speed drives.

Great to have the headroom but as others said you should check your hardware before considering it. It doesn't make sense if you can't get the full 20Gbps.
* Does your motherboard have type C with 20Gbps? 10Gpbs?
* What's the speed of your SSD?

My tomahawk MB has 1 USB-C 20Gpbs port but my fastest drive is 7000Mbps I think.

Does b550 tomahawk support this? I think it's USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 not 2x2 so 10 gbps only?

No higher end boards of the x570 do have this speed and even usb4 speeds.

I really want to upgrade to x870 when the 9800x3d comes out lol. Most of those boards will come with usb4.
Im still rocking amd4 with 5800x3d.

Definitely not. mSATA is a totally different key type than the m.2 nvme slot. The physical slot dimensions are completely different.

This kind eniclosure will destroy your drive if writing big files, it'll get dam hot it'll burn your finger touching it. Destroyed two 2tb m.2 of my drive. Nvme design for internal use like in laptop and PC, not for external drives. That's just my experience, u might have better luck than me πŸ˜„

I've experienced that too and only use these for short periods of time or with a fan blowing air on the enclosure.

I only use these to clone drives. I leave the cover off and direct a small portable fan at the drive while cloning. Look for an external enclosure with a fan.

In for 1, my pc has a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port and I've had a NVME drive sitting around collecting dust...

So if I have a gen 4 m2 nvme, it will downgrade to gen 2 speeds?
