Yes, but considering this is a prebuilt from Costco, you're covered if anything happens.

The statement from Intel says for CPUs running up to 65 Watts are ok so take it with a grain of salt
Is it only HX chips or desktop chips across the board?

Desktop chips. I haven't seen reports on performance degradation over time with laptops

Recommend for 1080p is RTX 2060 and this surpasses it by 2 generations. You're fine

The processors that come unlocked and/or with an integrated GPU are suspected to be more susceptible than the base models.

This was made worse by the fact that motherboards weren't shipping with stock power profiles, so of course an unlocked processor was more than happy to run itself into the ground.

In any case, staying on top of BIOS updates is crucial for anyone trying to ride this out.

I wouldn't even attempt to boot into Windows once without knowing I had to latest BIOS.

Not sure I'd take the chance with that 14th Gen Intel CPU. Otherwise great for the price.

Im not sure why youre concerned. These midrange CPUs rarely showed any signs of issues to begin with (it was primarily the i9's and some i7's). The BIOS update that prevents this is already out, Intel extended their CPU warranties to 5 years, plus this is through costco so youre covered there too.
Just spend the 30 seconds installing the new BIOS when you get the PC and the problem will never occur.

The specs I've seen show the 14400F as having a base of 65W but a Turbo of 148W. Still, this is tempting given the Costco return policy, the non-proprietary nature of the build, and the delta between a DIY rig and this.

Do you trust Intel? Didn't they knowingly ship defective goods and hoped none would learn lol.

Should be about same performance but older gen upgrades are limited and can't use ddr5 or latest stuff this is modern 2024
Aside from being newer it also has 2x ram, and 2x storage. The processor is going to be 5-20% faster on this one depending what you're doing. But the added ram really helps too. I know people say 16gb is enough, but you're going to be giving the system X amount just to run, so you're down maybe 4-6gb right there. If you open a lot of tabs when browsing the web that'll make it run low quickly too.

How does this compare to the Ibuypower deal for $999 currently at Costco? I know both computers require the BIOS update to avoid the Intel chip problems.

I'd guess marketing/finance 😂. No pride in the work they do, sad.

Is the only difference this is an i5 and that one is an i7? Is it worth the extra price for that processor?
