I remember when I bought a 512 MB thumb drive at Costco in 2003 for $40. THAT was a deal...it just amazes me how much you can get these days
Yes, I remember those days too! I scored a 1 gb flash drive for $25 couple of years later and that was a solid deal. With that said, this specific one is still priceir because this is designed for iPhone/pad with lightening pin. The regular USB 2.0/3.0 are sold for sub $20 for this memory range
So I purchased the 64 gb iPad deal. Is this something that would be a solid option to use to unload things off the iPad to save space. I would assume this would be only useful for photos, videos and documents.

Yep…this is excellent for 64gb devices…

I wish this had a USB C connector on the other end instead of USB 3.0. I was hoping to move my files back and forth as needed between iphone and laptop, but laptop only has USB C port.

Adapters are stupid cheap. ($5 for 3 pack)
Worthwhile to keep at least one in the laptop bag - you'll never know when you want to connect to something.
The app is very easy to use and creates a backup drive for your photos. You can unload and create folders for pictures on the drive. Very nice for storing photos.
Personally, a better option to this is to use one of these connectors and add any size microsd card. The form factor is also half the size of iXpand. For ios 13 and above, the Files app will let you transfer files fairly easily using this dongle.
