Beginning MONDAY August 26, Subway will sell any footlong sandwich for $6.99 — a steep discount considering that some footlongs can cost as much as $14 in some cities. It's the privately held chain's latest attempt at luring back customers who are balking at rising fast food prices and spending less when they do go out.

The deal has a catch: The offer is only available via its app or website with the code "699FL" and ends on September 8.

When they removed the bmt from the classic menu, and added extra cheese and raised the price, I was out. Jimmy John's, jersey Mike's and potbelly are all better subs.

The last time I had Subway they where trying to promote that expensive menu by giving out free sandwiches at participating locations. I tried every sandwich that day. I stopped going like many. They priced themselves into a better sub category without providing it.

I went recently for the footlong bogo deal. Bread size changed. It was much smaller, in girth. I don't know if it was a one off., but i was disappointed.

Yeah, sometimes depending on the store. My sandwiches look like breadsticks.

I went to Subway for the first time in maybe 5 or 6 years - They're really skimping on the toppings. I recently tried their steak and cheese sub and was disappointed by the amount of peppers and onions, even the second time ordering and asking for extra of both, it was still disappointing.

I also had one of their chicken subs and was disappointed by the amount of vegetables. Next time I'll likely try ordering with extra of everything.

Someone told me they saw a sign in one that said extra vegetables are $2 - I don't know if true but it wouldn't surprise me, they already do it with meat and cheese - why not do it with produce and increase profits.

It was 6.99 just two years ago and now you need an app and only eat when they decide when we eat.

Man. I thought maybe it was just me, but I've also felt like they're skimping the couple of times I ate there this year. The veggies were cut noticeably thinner and there was less of them. The chicken sandwich seemed to have much less chicken than ever before. I figured maybe it was because I used a BOGO coupon? Either way, last time I threw away half my sandwich because it just wasn't even worth eating. Didn't taste good enough to justify eating poorly. I told myself never again.

Yeap. Experienced the same exact thing. It's like they made it smaller than the already smaller subs. Never again. Not worth it even at bogo at this point. Just going to Publix and getting whatever sub they have on sale ($7-8). They add so much more protein by default, and their bread is such better quality that half a sub fills me up just the same as a whole subway sub anyway.

Yep - their profits don't just come from jacking up prices and running skeleton crews, they also come from other cost-cutting & self-destructive tactics like switching to more cheaply-sourced, lower-quality ingredients, and/or smaller portions, hoping no one notices.

Many of these greedy corporations tried fleecing us all for as much as possible these last several years, while their employees suffer, and I'd like to think they've permanently lost the business of millions of people like me who are tired of being price gouged any time money's being exchanged.

Private equity is killing off the last positive aspects of capitalism with their only goal being to extract as much profit as possible.

Yeh no more subway for me. The last two times I had subway, they're more the size of a hotdog with buns. Really sad how they've not been able to innovate or stay with the trends.

Like someone else said, Subway priced themselves into a better sub category without providing a better product.
They sometimes have promotions, but it seems like at least half of the locations refuse to participate.

If I'm going to get a sub I'd rather just go to Jersey Mikes or Firehouse.
Yes, they're pricey, but at least you know you're getting a good sandwich.
Of course if you live in the Southeast, there's nothing that beats a Publix sub!
