So this requires a thunderbolt port on the laptop in order for it to work and provide the 40gb speeds? And if i have usb-c SS port on a desktop pc it won't work. Can someone confirm that's the case?

Yes it needs a thunderbolt port to take advantage of the speed. While not officially supported, TB4 docks will pass through USB3.2 but it's not going to do anything for you that a USB3.2 hub wouldn't offer for way less $. Also consider that the power brick for this thing is massive

Simply keep in mind that this device gives you one (!) extra TB port plus one extra USB3. If that's somehow exactly what you need and seems worth a hundred bucks, by all means go for it. Otherwise I'd say this is a totally nonsense item.

## Apologies: I mixed that up with a different item. This one indeed has one input and three outputs for TB which means you practically gain two ports. ##

Yeah I dont really understand the appeal for this, they really couldnt throw on 2-3 more USB-A ports? The thing that ALL laptops could use more of

Need to clarify these posts.
1) This takes one TB4 port and expands to 3 TB4 ports + one USB A 3.1r2 10Gbps port. The main purpose is for machines that only have 1-2 TB4 ports, this allows 2 more. (3-1)
2) This is functionally identical to the version sold by OWC and the OWC version on sale is also $99 but support is excellent with OWC so I would buy it from them
3) The major downside of this unit is that there is no power detect, so it remains on even if the host machine is off, so plan on spending $ on electricity use 24/7.
4) A much better designed machine is the caldigit. It costs more but has in addition 4 USB A ports, not just one. And it powers down when the host computer is off.
5) You can use the 3 TB4 ports as USB 3.1r2 as it is downward compatible, So you have altogether 4 extra ports
