Yes, Linksys LN1301 is a terrific router with 2 GB RAM and 1 GB of flash. Insane! I thought my Netgear R7800 with 512 MB RAM is pretty good until the specs on LN301 blows the R7800 out of the water and is a tri-band router as well!

With wireless mesh (instructions below), it's one heck of a deal and blows DECO AX5000 deal out of the water, imho.

EDIT: UPDATED instructions for enabling MESH (thanks to @rbtcordell for the original source):

1-Setup your Main router completely.

2-Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding

3-Log into your main router web admin.

4-Click on CA at the bottom right.

5-Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup.

6-Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.

7-Click Done adding Child Nodes and then Apply.

8-Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh mode when it turns blue.

9-Disconnect Ethernet and wait for blue light again.

10-Move node to desired location.

Great deal, gonna have to return my previous ones I got for $25.
Return SHIPPING COST is about $7/router when using Amazon as a return portal. Ended up keeping 3 of the ones initially ordered from Amazon for $25 and ordered 1 @ $15 from Woot!

Gah, with the extra $5 off I couldn't resist picking up another one of these. Its an amazing router for $15. Basic functionality on stock but as most already know both DD-wrt and OpenWRT are being worked on. I'm already running OpenWRT on the two I previously ordered, in mesh mode, and they are working great!
Tell us more about the DD-wrt and OpenWRT.

I'll try some LOS tests later, but for punching through my walls, not looking so hot so far. They're cheap though and will be a fun platform to mess around with OpenWRT on. I've bought 2 of them now, was thinking of snagging more, but with the tests I've done, may hold off. I've seen some guys get really good results even wireless mesh on OpenWRT (4x4 link). IIRC, the one guy that posted his results was doing 1st floor to 2nd floor wireless ~15ft and he got great results.
The antenna connections on the board aren't soldered. If you're willing to do a little surgery, you can install your own external antennas.

of course not.

Not necessarily true. You can connect the LN1301 as a wired bridge to the Asus router and then add additional child mesh clients to the LN1301 thus giving additional nodes.

I plan to do something similar when my LN1301s arrive; connect it as a bridge to my main router and add nodes/mesh clients to the LN1301. The plan is to connect all my IP cameras plus smart devices to the LN1301 mesh network and use my Netgear RAX38 router as an exclusive DFS 5GHz network for all my high priority wireless streaming devices.

Also I'm hoping to use Openwrt eventually as well when the LN1301 firmware is more mature and tested. Using LN1301s as Docker devices via Openwrt sounds fantastic. It will be like having a decently powerful $15 mini pc which uses 10 watts that can host several Docker containers 24/7.

Perhaps I'm assuming and expecting too much from Openwrt though. However from my limited half ars research Openwrt does appear to be able to run Docker unless someone here wants to correct me. Hopefully I can figure this stuff out when the time comes laugh out loud

Anyone know if this will be able to do multiple WiFi networks on separate VLANs with DD-WRT or OpenWrt in mesh mode?

I have Orbi RBR750 router with 2 satellites. I have few IOTs in garage that do not get stable connection as it is detached and about 30 feet away from house.
Can I add this as wireless repeater connecting to Orbi and configure at 2.4G and place it in garage?

Do you run them as extender or using ethernet backhaul with hard connection to each of the router and broadcasting the same SSID?

the question was "Can this be added as a node to an Asus router" and your method isn't adding LN1301 to the Asus router as a node.

Sorry to probably ask something that has been answered a couple times, but I just read through the whole thread a couple times and keep getting mixed up.

I have spectrums advanced POS router and whatever modem that came with that. I'm assuming it would be better to return the spectrum router they are charging me for monthly and use the two of these I received today ( I have one more coming). I'm fine with the basic bare bones stock mesh for now until I learn more.

So from my understanding I take one of my units and hook it up in place of my spectrum router as a parent node and then the other one I currently have I follow the steps I have seen in here to make it a child node. I just basically follow the couple steps and press the button and wait for the light to change ?

we have no clue what internet package you're buying from your ISP.

It probably can be done if going the dd-wrt or openwrt route and using 802.11s based mesh as long as the Asus supports 802.11s.

I realize that but if you get 2 LN1301s you can essentially get an additional node for the Asus.

One LN1301 will connect to the Asus router as a bridge and the other LN1301 will be a node/mesh to expand the WiFi range of the Asus. A bit convoluted but it should work.

Regardless, given the low price of these LN1301s getting 3 or more seems like a great way to have decent wifi coverage throughout your home.

Woot seems to have a plethora of LN1301s and are virtually giving them away at this point. With relatively decent hardware, Openwrt support and mesh capability via the default firmware I'm wondering what's the catch; deal seems suspiciously too good...

I found this additional mesh item. Should I add this to my setup for even better mesh performance?
