Yes, Linksys LN1301 is a terrific router with 2 GB RAM and 1 GB of flash. Insane! I thought my Netgear R7800 with 512 MB RAM is pretty good until the specs on LN301 blows the R7800 out of the water and is a tri-band router as well!

With wireless mesh (instructions below), it's one heck of a deal and blows DECO AX5000 deal out of the water, imho.

EDIT: UPDATED instructions for enabling MESH (thanks to @rbtcordell for the original source):

1-Setup your Main router completely.

2-Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding

3-Log into your main router web admin.

4-Click on CA at the bottom right.

5-Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup.

6-Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.

7-Click Done adding Child Nodes and then Apply.

8-Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh mode when it turns blue.

9-Disconnect Ethernet and wait for blue light again.

10-Move node to desired location.

Well crap, I just ordered a 2nd one off Amazon for $25 because these were sold out.

off to amazon to cancel the order.

edit: OOS on Woot.
I did the same thing but woot on Amazon shipped immediately. I just learned buying from Amazon when it's not shipped by Amazon means I have to pay return shipping. I'm thinking to refuse delivery. Anyone know if that will cause more problems than it's worth?

Yeah so I cancelled and refunded. Wasn't able to use the code to reorder but woot support gave me a $6 coupon code SORRY1. Not sure if it is account specific but feel free to try it Smilie
Can you tell me how you cancelled if it already shipped? Don't you have to pay return shipping?

Edit 9/2: I talked to woot support and they said that they couldn't cancel the order even though it was in preshipment. They said if I don't want the order to just refuse delivery and they'll take it back with no issues and no return shipping. My Amazon (from woot) was delivered early before I could request it to be refused. I had to take the boxes to a UPS customer service store to have them send it back as refused, so hopefully woot gets it back and I get my money back.

So i bought 2 of these planning to use one as a wired access point for the other at two ends of the house. I have ethernet run through the walls so this was always the plan but I see a lot of people buying them to use as mesh. Just wondering if anyone has input on whether it would be worth using as an access point over mesh at this point?
You can setup a mesh with wired backhaul to the second node. I believe you will get better handoff this way vs using the other node as a non-mesh AP, at least with the stock firmware.

So if I want to do a mesh with this system am I better sticking with stock firmware and going with raingater's method? Or update to open/ddwrt?
I have an orbi rbr50 so I'm assuming this will be an upgrade worth the money. As I have been looking into the orbi 800 series lately.
I haven't received my LN1301 devices (2) yet and once I get it, I will stick with stock for sure and setup wireless mesh.

The reason is very simple. I currently use Linksys MR9000 and wireless mesh is perfect on it. I tried OpenWRT and even had personal conversations with the builders on the MR9000 OpenWRT forums and the outcome is that the stock firmware's wireless mesh is much better and get almost the full throughput on the desktop that is wired to a node, which is at the far end of the house.

With OpenWRT, throughput was not even 60% of the stock firmware. This was about 8 months or so ago. So, I ditched the idea of OpenWRT 802.11s wireless mesh mode as the stock performance is excellent! Not much config and it works without any headaches, imo!

How does this LN1301 Mesh mode on current dd-wrt compare with Asus MESH (which doesn't work great for me)?

Got 3 of these on the $20 slickdeal, they just came today - took a loooong time. Just ordered one more for $15, won't hurt. I will eventually use these with DD-WRT or OpenWaRT once these options mature (and I have time to tinker). Currently I set them up as a wireless mesh with stock firmware by following the instructions (thank you all for posting!). Stock firmware seems limited, but better in terms of reliability and usability than some of the comments here led me to believe. If anyone wondered, can confirm that in my mesh config the ethernet ports also function kind of like a bridge, so I have printers and streamers plugged in directly to one of the mesh nodes so as to reduce WiFi traffic to node-to-node only.
Mesh-performance-wise (again with the caveat that this is on stock) - unfortunately it did not quite match my eero 6+ (not pro) 3-node mesh performance in the same exact locations. The Linksys was 15% percent slower (down) and had ~30-40% more latency. After a scan of channels I switched from auto to less congested channels for each of the 5ghz bands and it is now comparable to my eero's speeds. But I don't get why it wasn't smart enough to find these better channels on auto out of the box. Also, was surprised that the stock firmware limited the channel options you could select to 36 - 48 for the lower 5ghz band and 149 - 165 for the higher 5ghz band. Anyway, hoping this speed boost holds to I can switch eero's to only serve my iot and amazon devices (with wifi lights - over 40 devices) and switch all the actual networking to these.
BTW, even though these are past End-of-life, Linksys site lists the End-of-support sometime in '26, which is supposed to mean they'll issue security updates as needed. Now whether they follow through - it's anyone's guess, but fwiw, it shouldn't be complete abandonware quite yet.
At any rate, this seems like an amazing sale even if you're only going to stick to stock - but especially with aftermarket firmware.
Does the USB port work?

In Mesh configuration, can you assign static IP addresses to the parent and child nodes?

Hey dude you are blowing my mind right now! If you are willing, can you answer a couple questions?1. Are you running HomeAssistant in a Docker container on OpenWRT? I'm new to OpenWRT but not to docker or raspberry pi stuff. 2. How do you get IOT and guests to be on different VLANs yet still be castable by everyone? Thanks in advance!
I have the same questions! Especially the second one. I thought casting required that the phone be in the same L2 broadcast domain as the Chromecast?

I've got some tmo AC1900s still trucking with AIMesh, but upgrading soon to fiber with 400 up/down. Will these make a noticeable difference?
In my experience the AC1900's will struggle to handle the 400/400 even on wired connections. I had a couple and 1gb fiber but could never get the fully rated speed when using them even on wired connections. I expect this would do better and may be the next AC1900. Really commonly available and a great deal for people willing to do a little bit of work to get the most out of them.

Anyone can confirm whether the USB port works? If yes, is it under stock firmware or 3rd party? Thanks.

This is a wifi router. But if you want to get rid of the rental fee, you need a cable modem. Xfinity rents you a 2-in-1 router+modem combo unit.
One option is Hitron's CODA56 which is certified by Xfinity for their roll out of mid split upgrades. It goes on sale every so often for $119. Here's the list of approved modems: https://www.xfinity.com/support/i...tomerowned [xfinity.com]
I did this for my parents. Hitron CODA56 modem from Amazon for $119 and two of these routers. Set it up yesterday simply using stock firmware and it more than doubled Wifi speeds from old Netgear combo modem router with whole house coverage.

I do the all separate vlans on openwrt on different Routers Google Onhub. You need avahi to be installed and firewall modified and forward any vlan to dedicated streaming vlan.. all works flawlessly with openwrt but takes some effort to understand and learn
