Are these small enough to be 2nd carry on?
Got it for my son, who's headed for college, wanting something the size of a carry on. $10 for 24" wasn't bad and it's actually just under 21" long so works as a carry on too.

This is a solid duffel bag for $15. I bought it in July and have used it twice already. Good space and holds a good amount of clothes and toiletries. Highly recommended.

I just picked up my order for the 28". Its made out of some kind of vinyl/nylon plasticy stuff (think reusable grocery bags), and so its very loud when moving it around. Feels like tissue paper. For $10 I wasn't expecting much, but I cant imagine this holding up for more than a year.

Interesting, the 24" Swiss Tech Excursion Travel Duffel Bag [walmart.com] (Blue) is $10 for me. That might be regional though.

Does this make for a good gym bag (at least the smaller one)?

I got it for $10 two weeks ago. Definitely worth the $10 even $15. The material is solid. Zipper is not as smooth as I'd like but it looks heavy-duty enough to not break easily. Love the different compartments.

Yup, can't expect much at this price but this is less than a big box of XL garbage bags so I don't look like a street bum, LOL
edit: got mine last night, not sure what kind of fancy reusable grocery bags you have but these bags are not like any I've seen. The upper fabric is like of lightweight luggage and the lower/bottom is like vinyl/rubberized. Pretty decent for $10 for the 28", I like the humongous shoe compartment and all the pockets for organization. The shoulder strap is pretty lightweight but has a pad.
